I STILL have not received my w2 yet. If it doesn't arrive tomorrow, I'm going to have to slay people through the phone.

Anyone else having trouble? My father hasn't received his yet either.

I signed up for an online W2 service through my employer last year, but I never got any sort of confirmation of that registration. This year, they send out emails to other people letting them know that it was available online. I got fed up with not getting answers from HR and decided to check into the online site. After resetting my password, I was able to get access. It was there the whole time, and they had my email address...but I never got any kind of emails from them until I chose to reset my password. Pissed me off!

By law the post office isnt allowed to send W2 forms via a forwarding address. If your former/employer isnt up to date with the correct one. You wont get it because it gets sent back to them.So pretty much the only way you can get it is by calling the HR division of the last place you worked, and tell them wtf is up.

As for anyother reason for not getting it on time. I dont know. I just know I went though this with mine, and found out by asking my HR department.

I'm missing a rollover schedule when one of my IRA's cashed me out w/ tax withheld. I am sure as hell not reporting that as income since it's now in another IRA.

As far as everything else goes, pretty timely.

I could be wrong but I believe they are required to mail it by January 31st by Law (always told this by people in HR departments where I worked but never actually verified it myself).

Which means most likely you should have received it by now. However, as individuals said earlier in the thread, make sure whomever (former employer, current employer etc) has your current address, as they will not forward W-2s.

Failing that, just call your HR department and ask when they mailed them out. If they mailed them out 3 weeks ago... and you never got it, you need to request another one I would think.

Aren't you in the military?

And they make you pay taxes? That's kind of shitty.

Yup, the Military makes no sense...we pay taxes so in turn pay our own salaries. It's all about deductions come tax time. Remember, up to 2% of your income can be applied to Misc. expenses such as parking. Also, Military folk are entitled to dry cleaning services..that can be claimed as well. Same with travel that you did not receive TDY orders for like going to another unit for training or some such thing. If you have done these things and can in some way shape or form prove it, claim it. Up to $250 per item does not require a receipt to be sent in. Charities are also deductions. If you give to the CFC, claim it.

so the cocksuckers had my new address on file, but mailed it to my old address anyways, which of course got returned because it had a forward on it.

I now have them mailing it AND faxing it, because i'm pretty sure they'll fuck one of them up, so I'll get one out of it somehow.

By law, the W2's have to be postmarked by Jan. 31'st. However, the IRS won't do anything till Feb. 15th. And then they will mail a notice to your employer requesting they send a duplicate copy to you within 10 days.

Truant...How many employees did your company have in 2005?

Working for a National Temp Agency, we sent out over 120,000 W2's. Due to the volume, we use an outside company to prepare and mail out ours. They use some forwarding system the USPS offers where the W2 is actually delivered to the last active address they have on file no matter what our records show.

It sucks for those that actually gave us their current address by the end of Dec. but didn't notify the post office as well. At the very least, 1/4 of our employees (sadly, this includes our staff too) don't even let us know they moved until mid Feb, and quite a few contact us on April 15th for their W2! :(

One word of advise to those of you who haven't recieved yours yet, when you call your ex/employer for a duplicate, be courtious, you will get it faster that way

The Luxor has some retarded number of employees, I don't recall the number anymore, despite being forced to memorize it and answer it on a pre employment test.

The problem is, I gave them my new address in JULY. They mailed it to my old address anyways, they couldn't tell me why. They were able to tell me that they had sent it out (on time) but to the wrong address. And since I had forwarded my old address with the USPS, the w2 had been returned because they wouldn't forward it. They then confirmed my new address (I didn't have to give it to them) and told me they'd mail it to me.

I was very courteous on the phone, I almost always am. and I realize the person on the phone was most definately not the person responsible for said EFF UP. That said, they were very discourteous to me, and were very reluctant to help at all.

I was basically just venting frustration.

W2's arent my trouble, I've gotten them. It's the vast array of 1098's & 1099's that I am waiting on.

WOW, my accountant just called me,

It is going to be a great year if this is any indication. I always overpay my taxes so I get one giant check in February to pay any bills left over and pocket some cash, I know some people say get more money all year, but I know we would spend it, so this system works well for us. Plus it is always nice to get a bonus check and a week later a big income tax check.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Whew! $65 return.

As close to perfect as I'll ever get. I hate large returns, thats more money that I could have had invested during the year.

Got my W-2's. Did my return using Taxcut and have already received an email informing me that both my Federal and State returns were accepted. I've already planned out the many items I want to buy with it, but will probably just put it in the bank :(
