Hamas!

Post by Marbus »

Wow... this is going to provide some interesting news over the next couple of month or years. We now have an even bigger problem on our hands. While I'm not into the broad labeling of people, I do feel strongly that Hamas is not the right group as their ties to terrorist activity is well known. Very interesting that the people would choose this over Fatah... perhaps most feel that Hamas has a better chance of getting them their land back. Personally I think everything will come to a grinding halt now and any progress will be lost... hopefully not though.

Olmert has said in recent weeks that Israel will pull back unilaterally if they need to. He also stated that construction on the wall with continue even without cooperation from Palestinians if it comes down to it. I think the air going into the election was careful guardedness. Things have turned out like the Israelis believed they would, so now they're prepared to continue on by themselves.

All in all, I'm not surprised by the Hamas election. It seems like every time progress is made in the region, other areas take a few steps back so the region is worse off than before. Bush has already stated the US won't work with Hamas until it swears off terrorism. Expect those gears to come to a halt soon.

If you had any idea what the Palestinians have to deal with on a daily basis you would not be surprised by this election.

Yet again the phrase, "you reap what you sow" comes to mind.

I was thinking about this last night when they were talking about it on the news. Can we draw a parallel from Sinn Fein and the IRA of 20-30 years ago? If Hamas has some political clout (or legitimacy) might this not lead to them wanting to work within the process instead of outside it? I know ths situations are different (Teeny/Nick can probably provide some opinions about how things are still fucked up but the bombs don't explode anymore) but I honestly hope both sides can use the example.

Well the degree of Oppression and death the Palestinians have had to endure make the IRA and Sinn Fein's cause look utterly ridiculous so I don't think it's a fair comparison tbh.

The main issue remaining in Northern Ireland is simple stupid bigotry from the retards who actually think there is an freedom issue here.

Whereas in Palestine people consistently have basic human rights denied, and various acts of genocide have occured in the last few decades. I could go on.

As such, I don't really see much correlation between the two countries other than governments calling the IRA and Hamas Terrorist organisations.

Frankly "resistance" and "terrorist" are too close to differentiate in many cases, it just depends what side of the fence your taught to believe in.
