It is so wonderfully amusing to see so many of you asking what is wrong with profanity. Why is it offensive. Why are the mods doing what they are doing now. Why does the pendulum swing the other way. Seeing people that are quoting selective events and using historical events to prove themselves correct. Again this is so amusing. People that have become completely numb to all of these topics.

I have 2 kids. 15 and 11. My wife and I chose to raise them the way we were raised. It has been very interesting observing their reactions to things they encounter in the world. Fortunately they come and ask us about most of them and each other about some others. You know my kids favorite channels are Nickelodeon, Disney, and the Cartoon Network. They dislike profanity. I could go on and on. Bottom line is my kids (one of whom played EQ for 2 years and now plays DAoC) would not appreciate the way this board was in any form or fashion. They have been taught to communicate intellectually. Not with profanity or shock speak.

There have been all kinds of profanity and crude speech for as long as man has been speaking a language. There has always been an intellectual and non-profane way to speak as well. I choose the latter. Most of the people that were on this board went with the previous to the ultimate degree to where (IMO) they lost touch with the real world, the effects this method of communication has on others. I like the example one mod gave of "would you talk to the Pope this way?". Would you talk to anyone you respect in this speech? Your Boss? Your neighbor? Your Mother? Anyone you respect or want to make believe your intelligence is higher than 70? I for one am glad this board has been cleaned up.

I might not agree with Bemi, more often that not, because even I do use some profanity in /gui... But he is entitled his own opinion. I don't think raising his kids like he does is a good choice in today's world, but that is his choice, and much as though I don't think it is the good one, he is still entitled to it. I have met his son on eq, and he seems very mature. Of course, when 90% of the teens playing EQ are fucking morons who all look after Searyx as an example, it is quite refreshing to find one that doesn't say 'kool' 'thanx' 'b4' or 'n1' and that doesn't cuss every three words.

Though i respect Bemidian for posting his thoughts, i think for him its a valid statement and rules set on boards should probably be followed, I dont think the profanity used on boards is going to effect his kids. I think they are going to hear it from any type of media and from 99% of their friends. If they choose to use it or not is their choice, i really dont think it effects how a person will grow up(im sure there are exceptions), their personality, kindness, etc...Just like video games like doom, unreal, etc. dont turn 99.999% of the people who play them into killers.
Bad language is used by everyone; kids, parents, presidents, popes, jesus(oh trust me!), vishnu(sp?)...eeeveryone, and at this point it really shouldnt offend anyone but maybe the people that the profanity is directed at (its not always directed at anyone). Well it was to do with a court case where someone was sueing for verbal abuse and the word fuck was used. The judge ruled that this word was common language and therefore not offensive and the case was dropped.

So that I think is now used for the basis of most rulings now with that word.
