My roommate runs his gnutella client all the time and the damn thing chokes up all the cable modem bandwidth.
Do any of you IT guys know a sneaky way that I could wrangle back some of that bandwidth, or guard what I have?
Or.... do you know a subtile way I could choak up his client?

If you get/have a firewall type device (Linksys/Netgear) you can set priorities/bandwidth limits for individual 'flows'. If you can determine which TCP port #s Morpheus uses, you should be able to set this up. I'll look into it more tonight.
Some of the better firewalls will allow you to set limits on the amount of bandwidth that can be used by an individual IP address.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

We share the connection over a dhcp server/switch.
His computer is upstairs behind a door I have no key to.
I just figured if I could quietly take control of things and set limits I'd keep all the cards and wouldn't have to "negotiate."

Never overthink the simple solution, you could in fact restrict his bandwidth in several sneaky underhanded ways, but going up and smacking him in the head with a 10 pound bass is going to be the most effective AND satisfying.
