One thing I haven't been able to determine is if that legendary bug mount is usable outside of AQ. I know the regular ones aren't, but they also say that they aren't...

I would assume it is usable outside of AQ since it is legendary and not just, say, epic.

Also it doesnt say it is only useable in certain places. Most items with these type of limitations state it on the object.
