System of a Down - Hypnotize

Post by Gonzoie - Luclin »

hmm, gave a run through or two, its about on the same level as Mesmerize song style wise.

only 36 mins long though, glad i downloaded and didn't purchase it.. they should have just been combined into one album.

Its decent, will probably need to grow on me like mesmerize did.

You have to give them some credit for being able to control the industry to the point that they can just as easily make 100% more money. I'm sure a lot of bands that like money would do the same thing, were they as popular.

If my favorite artists would put 2 albums out a year at 40ish minutes, I would buy them rather than wait 1 or more years for a "complete" album. Perhaps they would think a little harder about song selection and lineup as well. Both of these SOAD discs are very good in thier own right, but also combine to form one solid listening experiance.

2 albums a year? No thanks. I like to at least think the music I'm listening to had more thought than "whoa this beat is good" go into it.

Consider how long it's been since the previous SoaD CD had been released. I'd give you a pinpoint number if I had the time, but I'm pretty sure it was 2002.

And also, why on earth would you let the amount of time taken to create an album reflect upon how much you enjoy said album? If I made an album in one week and it sounded awesome, wouldn't it sound exactly the same if it had taken me a year to create? Maybe I'm misinterpreting your argument. Enlighten me.

I don't think it's safe to say that "short production time" = "no more thought than beat," which is the message I get from your post.

My comment wasn't referring to SoaD, but rather the idea that all artists should be pumping out 2 albums a year minimum:

Face it, music that's good takes time to create, regardless of who you are. The most obvious examples of this are rappers who are putting out 2-3 albums a year, and pop artists who do the same. The music means nothing, and is usually just jibberish that teenagers put together and write on their online journals.

They pay a beatmaker to make a beat on the computer in about 5 minutes, and have their writers write the song. Rinse, repeat, release album. No thanks.

Furthermore, the idea of someone making an amazing album in a week, while so very unlikely, would suck. Let's pretend you release a new kickass album each month. Eventually, the music loses value, because there's so much of it.

I think you're seriously overestimating how long it takes to write and record a 3-4 minute song. I'd also like to note I never said artsists should put out 2 albums a year. I said if they did, I would buy them.

If an artist would offer a DL of every song they recorded as they were finished, some artisits would be able to crank out a song every few weeks, while others would take months. The quality of the song has absolutley nothing to do with the time invested. It has to do with that artist creating something that clicks with you. Someone could spend 5 years writing and recording a single song and it could still suck.

Do some research and you'll find that some of the best songs were written in very short amounts of time due to sudden inspiration or other circumstance.

all this does not change the fact that Mesmerize and Hynotize should have been 1 CD.. now, the music is good, but it sounds reused and rehashed. i Never took SOAD as a band who was just in it for the money, but its starting to seem that way now.

I've never thought of them as anything -but- a band that's in it for the money. But I don't think it's detrimental to their sound, and I love 'em.

Tell me those aren't the lyrics actually used at some point in this album.
Do unto others what has been done to you.

Opinions are opinions but I am utterly amazed how anyone can consciously pay attention to the music they've been putting out without being compelled to ram metal spikes through your ears.

Those are some poor fucking lyrics right there.

And it should have been one album, bloody rip off merchants.

Plx hurry up with the Tool Album boyos so this second rate bullshit gets another stiff and sincere middle finger from actual quality heavy rock .

While I regard Tool as one of my favorite bands, it would be really nice if they didn't dilute the next album with a slew of bullshit filler tracks of odd noises and random nonsense under the pretense of "art".

You're not wrong, but I do think it adds to the overall effect.

For example, about a year and a half ago I took my last mushroom trip and listened to Aenima, it was an experience I will never forget, and it's stunning cathartic value depended entirely on literally every single note and nuance of the album.

I don't think therefore writing it off as some pretentious art wank is entirely fair.
