Rogues: Daggers, Swords and Maces Oh My!

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I have a level 60 Rogue that is having an identity crisis. I had started out mainly spec'd combat with smattering of assassination and subtley. I used primarily maces and was going that route until I got Bonescrapper from the Baron. I then went out and got another dagger I could afford at the time (Julies Dagger) and respec'd to mostly assassin with some minor combat and subtley.

Now I got wind that Swords would be a better route to go. So that is my identity crisis. I know a lot depends on my style of play. I am mainly a PVE and have yet to do any PVP with this char. I tend to solo quite often but do instances with the guild. So I am looking for a setup that will allow me the most bang for my buck, so to speak. Any ideas? builds? Combos?

I'm swords, and always have been. One mistake I have in my talent build that I am too cheap to respec for is I would take the 1 point in Murder and place it into Improved Slice and Dice.

I've always been happy with my build. It does great on raids, very well in PvP, and Combat spec has always been a more efficient soloing build as a rogue.

Imp. Slice and Dice is fucking awesome, no matter what your spec, IMO.

I do PVP and PVE, and I did not care for my combat build in pvp. When I got a gutgore ripper, I respec'd to a dagger build from a combat sword build...i went cookie cutter 21/8/22.

I do less damage in MC, but PVP is a lot more fun for me now...so...I guess it all depends on what weapons you are capable of getting. I probably won't switch back to a combat build unless I could actually get a one hander from BWL with a nice high end damage range.

It depends entirely on your playstyle. Anything at all could be "the perfect build", it just depends on what the application is.

My generalized input:

Seal Fate is excellent for lowbies because its far superior to combat damage talents when you have shitty gear. Eventually it will not be as good to you.

Combat is generally your best bet for PVE, but the details of it can change depending on what you're doing; If you're solo grinding, you want to avoid dagger related shit because Sinister Strike always wins when youre solo. If you're more into instances or raiding, it really just depends on the types of weapons you can aquire. I'm lucky enough to have had the opportunity try daggers AND swords which are at the exact same level and honestly the difference is not enough to matter. It boils down to personal preference and being able to aquire the weapons.

.. and CB/Prep is the win for PVP.

Honestly though? Stop "catching wind" of shit. Try things yourself. Sit down and just think about what you want and which talents will benefit YOU the most. The best build you'll ever have is one you allocate on your own.

my profile is below if you are interested in my personal raiding build..

edit:
bah.. i forgot how old that profile is. Here is my actual current spec with Riposte and Improved Instant :}

I got the bindings back in April, before anyone had a clue what the reward was.

In terms of PvP, perhaps. In terms of PvE, not at all.
Do unto others what has been done to you.
