The Humane Society

Post by Sylvos »

I am really impressed with The Humane Society in Portland, I picked up a cat yesterday that had been there for a while. The actual care that the pets get is really good, I was plesently surprised. I had been expecting dirty kennels and raggaty pets. Instead, I found well cared for animals with individuals that really cared about their well being. I had heard horror stories about the Humane Society before, but after going to this Portland one I can pretty much discount them without prejudice.
I blame us getting this new cat completely on Sirensa who sent me a PM with a link and the caption "aw doesn't this just pull the heartstrings". So being the tough guy I am, I grabbed my crotch, muttered something about muscle cars and manly and spit , then rushed to NE portland before dark and obtained said cat.
I will say one thing, do not walk into the Humane Society wearing scrubs, they will think you are a vet and literally MOB you with files asking for help with pet a. or b. etc.. I was like whoa hey no! I just want a cat!

I really recommend going to the Humane Society and getting a new cat/dog they are totally in need of homes!

Our new cat, Tangi (name subject to change obviously) is slowly adapting to her new environment and is insanely friendly.

Behold.

Name recommendations for her are welcome!

How cute!! Her color is really pretty too. I'm glad to hear that your Humane Society takes care of the animals at it's shelter. I have heard lots of horror stories too. Gratz on the new kitty~

Freckles :) When I was a young child my parent had a cat that looked almost exactly like that named Freckles. She actually saved my life once as she attacked a Doberman (pouncing on him from a tree) who was charging for me into our yard.

He had already seriously injured one child and was to be put down but somehow got out again before they could take him away. I was only about 16 months and was 20 feet or so from my parents. By time they realized what was happening it would have been too late. The least I would have gotten away with was serious scarring and probably the loss of an eye or worse. As he crossed into our yard from the streed she jumped out of the tree onto the back of his neck, sunk all her claws in and latched on to his throat with teeth... dropping him almost immediatly to the ground. They fought for a few seconds which gave just enough time for my mother to pick me up and head for the house and my dad to get in between us. Once they had me she let go and the dog ran off. Interestingly enough the owner tried to file charges against our cat but since the dog was already due to be put down and he was in our yard, everything was dropped... so Freckles is a good name :)

Cheers!

We had a cat with a face like that for a brief time in the past and called her Spooky. (names of other cats were Conan, Bubbles and Caesar)

I don't use previous pet names as passwords so I can say these!

Roadkill is a pretty leet name for a cat.

I'm partial to three names: Swee'pea, Trouble and And Bob's Your Uncle (Bob for short would be fine). Of course this is a female kitty so ><

When I get a cat, his name will be "Scratch Fury, Destroyer of Worlds"... and when I take him to the vet, they'll have to call his full name before I enter.

She looks like she could have been a littermate to my Torby... same eyes and face shape... beautiful girl you got there!

I'd wait to name her untill she gets comfortable in her new home and shows her true personality....
