Brownie

Post by Sumdaor »

Mike Brown says he has resigned as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

I don't know anything else yet. I just saw this on cnn's website Am I the only one who thinks he has been targeted as the fall guy at this point. GW and the crew trying to find some way to get the heat off of them.

I don't see how this takes the heat off anyone?

He was handpicked by the Bush administration.
He received glowing reviews on how he handled the Katrina situation.
'Heck' he even received a personal compliment and endorsment by King Bush.

There is not going to be a single 'fall guy'. The failure was too widespread and all-inclusive.

I must admit that I was surprised that the Bush administration, in essence, admitted failure when they pulled him off the job. Their support has held steadfast on every single shitty decision they have made since they were 'elected'.

Well Bushie appointed "Brownie" as he called him last week when he swaggeredly said "Doin' hell of a job"... which of course goes to show once again that Bush doesn't know WTF he is talking about...

My wife's boss told me on friday, and I haven't confirmed this, that it came out the Brown apparently lied on his resume. I thought Bush was an idiot for appointing a horse show coordinator to a National Director postion but apparently he wasn't even that good... who knows. Lets not forget though that FEMA no longer had a cabinet position, not only did Bush appoint someone incompetent but he moved him down on the food chain so that he couldn't even yell for help...

Brown is an idiot, so this doesn't surprise me but ultimately the poor response is due in part to GWB's actions or lack of actions. First thing he should have done was stop his vacation when the nation was in need. Of course he last time the nation had crisis' he stayed on vacation until we were attacked then grabbed a bull horn and became a hero, maybe he was planning on trying that again... sad thing is I there aren't any "brown" people to blame for this one... unless of course we want to blame some of the local population... which I don't see happening but who knows!

It's almost a given that your president/prime minister isn't going to know everything that's going on at any given time... especially if said president doesn't watch 'tv screens' like regular folks.

But this level of ignorance sets a new precedent.

I don't see how anyone could classify Michael Brown as a "fall guy". He's simply not qualified, to put it mildly, to do the job he was appointed to do. Frankly he should have been fired over a week ago.

I don't think this will do anything to take the 'heat' off others where it's warranted.

They had to take him off the job. The public outrage and sagging approval ratings didn't help. Bush doesn't have the political clout to ignore this and move on. If this is the only major change from this disaster then yes he is the fall guy. There needs to be serious talk about moving FEMA from under DHS, and a major shake up within DHS.

I remember seeing footage last week with Bush being briefed by Brown on what was going on. They were standing over some maps of the region and Bush looked like he wanted to knock Brown out as he was talking. It was funny that none of the commentators ever addressed his body language in the video footage.

I AGREE, Michael Brown first off failed along with many others (The governor the worse)...and should of never been placed in the position....and he did need to be replaced. But you do not do that type of change right in the middle of the shit. You create even more chaos and disorganization.

Devil's advocate: On Michael Brown's defense(which he doesnt deserve any, but ohh well) he actually does have some qualifications since hes been the director of FEMA, since many of you say he has none..Remember Florida last year?

How many other people in the US have directed 164 presidential disaster's? And as many Hurricane reliefs?

http://www.fema.gov/about/bios/brown.shtm
Under Secretary Brown has led Homeland Security’s response to more than 164 presidentially declared disasters and emergencies, including the 2003 Columbia Shuttle disaster and the California wildfires in 2003. In 2004, Mr. Brown led FEMA’s thousands of dedicated disaster workers during the most active hurricane season in over 100 years, as FEMA delivered aid more quickly and more efficiently than ever before.

I personally do not think anyone alive was qualified for such a powerful storm, since there hasn't been one even close since the Galveston Huricane around 1900...and that was such a disaster, you can still tell it hit even today. Galveston was suppose to be the=Gulf Coast New York......CAT 4-5 hurricanes are fkin beast, and CAT 3s are a bitch.

Of course they did a good job with the Florida hurricanes last year. It was an election year and Florida was a key state. If they were able to deliver aid "more quickly and more efficiently than ever before" there's no reason the same couldn't have been done for this.

Sirton, I guess you missed the link... the Gov. of LA has been cleared. Aslanna posted the link on another thread. It's already been investigated, she did what she was suppose to, it was the Feds that screwed the pooch.

I was drunk when I posted that, and I hardly think that a minor mistake in my grammar made anyone unable to get the point I was making.

Wasn't like I was saying "Haha, my spelling is better than youres!!1!"

Taste the rainbow!

Ooh, that reminds me of a cool rainbow I saw a few weeks back. It was a circle up in the sky that didn't connect to the ground. People were in the parking lot just pointing at the sky.
