dodge neon
i have a 2004 sxt and am weighing my options. i either want to put a turbo into it or replace the engine and tranny from a used srt 4. i can do all the work myself but don't know if it's worth the effort. i'd probably have to get a new harness, computer, etc and then worry about it passing emissions. any suggestions?
My goal is to live forever. So far so good.

Like a Honda?
Two different groups of people for questions like this:
1. The people who say do the work yourself. Rip it apart, buy the parts and put it back together. It might end up being cheaper than actually buying the car itself, but also has a greater chance of running into problems.
2. The people who say sell the car and buy the real thing.
I'm torn personally. In my car community (3000GT/Stealth) it is becoming more and more common to turbocharge the non-turbo cars. Hell there is an automatic with twin 18T turbos! However, they are still not the real thing. Granted that is a bit different with a 3/S since the turbo ones come in AWD.. But you get my drift.
I am not a huge fan of the SRT4 personally but it is a decent car to make fast for cheap. However, I have two issues with it: It is still a Neon.. and most people who drive them are complete jackasses. As are the msg boards for them.
There really is no yes or no answer for this thread, it all comes down to what you want. Just be aware that it will take a lot more work than you probably expect to make it run right. And quite a bit of money. You could always keep the Neon as a daily driver and get a 2G DSM to make ultra-fast for pocket change

Dodge Neons can be quick fun little cars, despite what anybody says. However, instead of dropping 3 grand at least for a decent turbo set up that will probably just destroy the motor (unless you've done some serious performance upgrades to the pistons, rods, etc) of your $15,000 car, you should sell the car, skip the turbo and go straight to the SRT-4. I think they go for 22-25ish brand new, right?
Spring for the stage 3 turbo upgrade at the dealer, if it's available, and you'll have yourself a Neon body, with an SRT-4 motor, and about 350 horsepower and 350 torque.
350 Horsepower on a 2800ish pound car will go like hell and you won't have to worry about people laughing at you because they'll be so far behind you you won't be able to see them.

humiliation because of appearance or performance? cause it seems both could be a valid answer.Kelshara wrote:..and you still have an ugly 4 door car with Wrong-Wheel Drive (FWD) and traction issues..
Last time I saw a SRT4 go up against a pretty much stock Stealth RT/TT it got humiliated. On video heh.

i don't think it's the sexiest car out there but imho it looks good and for my budget is worth the money. i'm not looking to be the fastest speedracer on the road, just faster than the stupid cookie cutter civics and jettas all over the place.

Whoever runs a 14.5 in a RT/TT should be shot. A non-Turbo runs close to that.
The SRT4 got humiliated in performance. 3 runs, 2 from a roll and he lost all 3 (even the one where he pulled first). Funny part was that he posted on a SRT4 board bragging about how he crushed the Stealth and asked "the two girls who filmed it from the VR4 to please send him the video!" Little did he know that they actually saw the post and DID post the video of him being crushed.. much amusement followed!
The SRT4 is a great car for the price. A LOT of bang for the buck. I just can't stand 4 door cars and FWD performance cars. It is pretty decent from a roll but, as with other FWD performance cars, it struggles with racing from a stop due to traction. Hell even highly modded RT/TTs and VR4s (AWD) will burn through 1st and 2nd.

i like the four door just b/c i use my car for more than speeding and it looks unassuming as well. fwd is all i know, i'm a bit ignorant on how the handling is in a rwd. though i have mastered all of the liscences on gt4 }
