Starship Troopers

Post by Sionistic »

A game is finally being made based on what I thought to be a very underated movie Starship Troopers. I played the demo for this game on fileplanet. All I have to say is wow... Rico's ass must hurt from the fucking this licence is getting.

First off, It uses actual clips from the movie in the game. While I thought cool at first, it just seemed like a way to be cheap. The demo lvl starts with you heading to the outpost that was delivering a distress call. The bugs start heading in your direction and you fend off the attack.

Lets say that in the movie there was 1000 bugs attacking. The attack in the movie must have been at most 50 bugs. Why set up to a huge scene just to disapoint like that? Now I will admit this game has a pretty efficient graphics engine, however the graphics themselves are just ugly.

After that you are sent to recover something in a valley just across where all the bugs came from. Of course they send you alone, because the 50 or so soldiers there cant help you. There is hardly any recoil in this game. I could jump around and move all I wanted (which was very sluggish) and still have dead on aim. Then I fought my first bug 1v1 and saw why.

Imagine the brain stem is like a headshot for the bugs. Now imagine getting about 20 head shots. Thats what it seemed like to actually put a bug down. Yet if I got close, 1 pop with the shotgun sometimes takes them out. Very imbalanced.

The music was not dynamic at all. I had this sorta peaceful music going on while I was in and out of battle ith bugs. Really messed up the flow of the game. Plus the sound wasnt impressing me at all. It was like every single bug could only make 2 noises. Usually just the first one, which was their charging sound as I tried to dodge them with the extremely sluggish controls. I got so fed up with them that I ended the demo.

This game needs serious work, work which I doubt will be done. Makes me sad to see that a game with a licence I loved, get raped to shreds.

That pretty much sums up the book to film translation as well.

I just can't get into a game created from a movie. Much in the same way that I can't get into a movie really that has been created from a game. There are always exceptions of course. Not having read the book I really enjoyed the movie Starship Troopers.

I always loved Starcraft's Starship Troopers mods that were put out there. If you're looking for a fun version that will take your mind away for half an hour, boot up that game and download some of those custom maps.

It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.

BAD Cotto. It was fun, and only bugs i seen was due to using a copy (missing text in menus after running a patch, and crach when it was supposed to play one of the missing movies)
