Right wing media obsession with Karla Homolka
I just don't get it.
Sure, she took part in a couple of pretty disturbing murders and cut a good deal in getting only 12 years... but she's served her time.
The way the Sun is going after her is pushing them into National Enquirer tabloid territory. I think she's been on their front page for the past 4 days.

She had a husband who's sexual fetish was brutal anal rape. She drugged and raped her sister and also allowed her to be anally raped by her husband. She also videotaped it. She also gained the trust of a young neighborhood girl before repeatedly drugging her so she could be anally raped by her husband. She also assisted her husband in snatching anonymous women directly off of buses to be brutally raped while she watched (or participated). And this is not an exhaustive list. A number of her victims were killed along with the rapes.
Just saying this so we're clear on what "a couple of pretty disturbing murders" means. As I don't see Canadian tabloids, I can't really comment on whether the coverage is excessive.

They're made a movie about it.

Karla Homolka is going to be played by the chick that played Donna on "That 70's Show".

Dude, there are sun boxes EVERYWHERE!Dregor Thule wrote:You shouldn't even be laying eyes upon the Sun. The deal she cut was bullshit, 12 years was too lenient IMO. Her life is pretty much over anyways, at least in Canada. She won't be able to lead a normal life at all.
Hey, I think my monitor has a dead pixel.
I can't even walk to the subway without some tool trying to hand me a free copy.... they can't sell that rag so they constantly wave free copies in your face.
I sometimes grab a free copie for the ride home, there are a few columnists who are (unintentionally) hillarious. Michael Coren in particular cracks me up.

Its not just the Sun... its all over the media.
I agree with Dregor that she cut a sweetheart of a deal, but at least her husband will never get out. Other than that I think we have to keep our guard up on her but stop obsessing over her.
And the Sun is right wing? I thought it was just there for the Sunshine girls and sports...

Haha, true, but most of the Sun boxes have something scrawled all over the front of them! There are a lot of free papers available to read over that garbage. And yeah Wulfran, it's right wing. I wouldn't even pick one up for the Sunshine girl. Maybe 15 years ago when that would have been risque, but now it's everywhere! No need to debase myself with some trash rag like the Sun for it!
She is the first news story about Canadian serial killers that has every "crossed over" to mainstream US press. But kill 13 indian women and no one in the US without a specific interest will hear of it.

I usually read the Globe and the Star. There has been minimal coverage in those papers.... I don't think I even saw a single blurb about her in the Globe all week. CBC news has had little-to-no coverage. Its not just the Sun... its all over the media.
