Universal Remotes!

Post by Nilaman »

Three weeks ago my nephew killed my Universal Remote with a glass of orange juice. I had used this thing for years. It worked great. I think it was going on its eighth year as best remote ever. The sleep timer function worked with my TV, it had previous channel button etc. I liked it. It was a cheap ass RCA remote.

They don't sell those anymore. Now they sell these 5 in one wonders and such. I can't really find any I like, but I bought one anyway. It was a shitty Phillips. I didn't really like it anyway, it had a crappy internal sleep timer on it. Set it and point it to the TV before falling asleep. Like that will happen. My nephew killed it by throwing it. The kid is not that tall or strong, but it is dead. I threw my other remote through a wall and it worked just fine. This kid has a way to kill technology.

Anyway, I just bought a new remote and it sucks so much ass. It is identical to the one I just had except it is made by Zenith. The manual is identical, the buttons are in all the same spots except I think they switched the power button around or something. They changed the color of the remote and shape of some buttons but otherwise it is identical. The other one broke so easily, I don't want to keep this one around.

Do any of yall use a universal remote that doesn't suck? Or know of one that works pretty good? I will order it online if I need to. I just don't want these shitty remotes anymore.

Bought a cheap RCA remote at Target or WalMart recently, works great with all my stuff (RCA, Sony, Panasonic).

Check out the MX-350, its won a bunch of awards for the ergonomics and ease of use.... Setup can be a pain, but at the end of the day its a workhorse of a remote. Ive seen them dropped, kicked, spilled on, and keep going.

I think its $200.

Your PSP can double as a universal remote with the right programs!

Be leery of remotes that can do anything and everything.. my roommate had one and it was a bitch to use. After 3 months I still couldn't use it properly.

I prefer to keep one for each piece of equipment. I have more things to lose that way.

The front page features a 27 page review comparing two remotes that cost ~$700.00 each. :!: That's one serious techno nerd site!

I have like 5 friends with these and they all love them. Some have had this or the previous top of the line for like 5 or 6 years. Plan to get one myself eventually.
