Stella
I don't know if you saw this after the amazing Reno 911 last night, but the show wasn't really that bad, unlike the majority of new shows Comedy Central reveals each year.
They (to me) advertised it wrong though. Before watching, I figured it would be another random sketch show, just starring the three characters. The show actually followed a plot line however, and kept me interested. Their slogan is "Dumb comedy dressed up in a suit," and that's basically what it is. A lot of the comedy is sophmoric at best, but some of it goes beyond that.
[hide]I found the landlord portion hilarious, the fact that they suspected (jokingly) that he was a nazi, and he turned out to be Dr. Joseph Mengele. He died when they performed open heart surgery and mutilated his intestines - something the younger viewers wouldn't catch on to. Beyond that, skunk tails were great![/hide]
Long story short: The show is okay - some of it is truly dumb, but it does have some great comedy too. Will this show last? I'd have to see another episode before putting my word on it. This is definitely not a Chappelle replacement, but it's not horrible either.
Of those who saw it, what do you think?

I need to catch that on replays. I wanted to see that after seeing the commercials for it. Will it last? Probably not, if it's a good show. CC has kept Reno 911 going and I find that show to be one the dumbest I have ever watched. But they cancelled and brought back a few times before cancelling for good.... Tough Crowd, which is one of the best shows I have ever watched.

Not to derail my own thread here, but Reno is "popular" because the comedy is out there to offend, much like Chappelle's. I'm not placing those shows on the same level but the kids today like racism, sexism, and offensive activities, which both those shows center themselves on. Is Reno dumb? Very, but it fits the in that "rude" catagory.

I saw about 5 minutes of Stella. I was boggled. I had no idea what was going on and I watched it as if it were a trainwreck for a few minutes before I turned it off. However, I don't remember why I didn't like it or even what was happening.
Reno 911 is hilarious. Just forget that it's a comedy show and pretend that it's an episode of Cops. There was an episode the other day where the police had to get an old homeless guy to pull up his pants. It's brilliant.

Did you catch Stella from the beginning? It has a storyline, ie not a clip show.Sueven wrote:I saw about 5 minutes of Stella. I was boggled. After watching the second episode I can safely say that I will personally enjoy this show.
[hide]Although the beginning of this episode was sort of dull it only got better. The girls from below say, "And you smell like chicken nuggets," to which they returned "yeah whatEVER." They change scenes and sit down at a table, begin a conversation, and randomly start pulling out nuggets from their pockets - hilarious.[/hide]
Unfortunately my electricty died for 5 minutes in the middle of the show due to a storm
It really is dumb comedy dressed up in a suit - and it's not THAT great, but little stuff like the above make it worth watching.

It's silly, but it being in a suit makes it funny.Sionistic wrote:I dont like the show very much. The jokes are more silly than they are funny. However the new Reno was hillarious! I will never think of cat rescue in the same way ever again.
And yes, the cat woke me up and I wouldn't stop laughing.

The show does require a certain taste.. a normal one.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Well, after watching it finally, I've got to say I can't remember a more unfunny show. I'd rather watch 50 straight hours of Little House on the Prarie. It is fucking awful. I will be deleting that Season Pass on the Tivo.

But seriously, they cancelled Tough Crowd for this lame shit?

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
Dwight Eisenhower

Tough Crowd was good, but goddamn they had so many retards on that show, and sadly all of them were smarter than the host. It was like watching a bunch of uneducated drunks bicker about politics...which is also why it was entertaining...
Stella has been pretty good so far. Some episodes have been GREAT though. I love how random and silly it is.

the reason tough crowd sucked is because of colin quin who i never thought was funny and that stupid hideously obese guy that tried to act black, a lot of the other guys were funny but I never really watched the show…but yeah, theres no way I could enjoy stella unless I took out 2 or 3 bowls
the daily show is still the best show on TV...was awesome the other day when jon stewart verbally beat the shit out of that "100 things with with americas moral society" author

Exactly - the randomness in TV shows lately hasn't been cutting it, but for some reason this show gets it right.Keverian FireCry wrote:Stella has been pretty good so far. Some episodes have been GREAT though. I love how random and silly it is.
The song "Higher and Higher" fit so well with that montage at the picnic.
