FUKUOKA -- A suburban Tokyo government official has been arrested for filming up the skirt of a 4-year-old girl at a packed festival here, police said.

Akinori Yamada, 30, of Machida in suburban Tokyo, was arrested for breaking a Fukuoka Prefectural Government public nuisance ordinance by allegedly making a sex object of the pre-school girl.

Police said Yamada and the little girl he targeted were part of a huge crowd surrounding one of the floats used in the Hakata Dontoku Minato Matsuri festival, the biggest event in the country over Golden Week, attracting millions of visitors.

Yamada sneaked up behind the little girl and thrust a bag containing a hidden camera between her legs, then started filming up her skirt.

I don't see anything in there that is more disgusting than things I've read about in other countries. I really don't think any americans or europeans should be passing judgement on the entire country because of a couple of child molesters.

The Japanese are a very sexually repressed culture though, so you are going to get a lot of deviants. The same thing happens in the catholic church.

that argument is as silly as the vending machine panties one. some things, including instances of sexual assault are unique to a specific culture. train groping is no more or less common than a north american or a european girl getting groped in a club or on the street. I probably shouldn't be trying to talk to you when you get all worked up and excited about train groping, but whatever.

In Japan you have a very certain set of cultural paradigms that put together foster an environment for something like this. you have a very condensed population almost totally reliant on mass transit. you have a female population that general considers it shameful to attract attention to oneself, especially sexually.

All I'm trying to do is point out just because a society or culture is different that doesn't make it any worse than another. I doubt that there are more sexual assaults against women in Japan than there are in the united states. if you have evidence of the contrary than I suggest putting it up or shutting it up. My guess is you'll do neither and post another weak flame or a stupid fucking jpeg that nobody but you thinks is funny.

The club analogy is a poor one while the street is questionable depending on the situation. Clubbing is understood to be a place for social gathering wherein the idea is to unwind and possibly mingle with new people. Both sexes make an effort to appear attractive towards the opposite sex and it will occasionally attract the wrong sort of attention. Women riding on the subway are looking to go to work; nothing else. They aren't dressed in daisy dukes and tank tops looking for attention. Not that it's justified in any case, but they are clearly very different situations.

One of the drawbacks of a "women only" subway compartment is that the poor women who cant get a spot in one of these (because they're full) are automatically assumed to be horny sluts who are looking to get their shit all felt up.

I've been in enough crowded subways in other countries to see that being groped isn't a "fact of life, especially if you're pretty" in any of these places. 80% speaks fucking volumes. Also consider that not all groping is the same. Some of those fuckers on that MB brag about how they manage to slide their hands underneath a skirt and manage to sink some fingers in some cracks. You'll be hard pressed to find a single Japanese woman who doesn't feel safer from this form of sexual assault while riding in a crowded subway in another country.

Dunno about Italy, France, or most of Africa, but speaking as someone who has actually lived in both Egypt and Turkey I can say that its perfectly possible for a woman to walk down the street unmolested. In Egypt, if youre a foreigner, then you may well get pestered for being perceived as a tourist, but not for being a woman. Lots of people, especially kids, looking to do things for you for baksheesh (tips), that kind of thing, around the more touristy areas anyway. I'd feel almost perfectly safe walking down any street in Egypt, at any time of day or night. They *do* have burglars in Egypt, but not armed robbery of any kind. Apart from the occasional burglary, the major crime spree in the 6 years we lived there was one purse-snatcher. The worst that will happen is quite possibly getting invited to someones home or local coffee shop for conversation and some rather dangerous coffee. Conversation and coffee is some kind of national sport in Egypt.

In Turkey its Ouzo and Backgammon that goes with conversation, and its much more of a guy thing. But while the Turks arent as overall friendly as the Egyptians, and are less likely to extend that friendliness towards a woman, theyre still pretty well behaved towards women, in terms of non-molestation etc.

Good for you. Go get drunk while you're at it. I've worked for a large multination corp long enough to pick up a few things. The sales reps are never short of stories. When the first thing a Japanese businessmen inquires about after business is concluded for the day is where they can pick up some whores, that means there's some issues. When the younger, prettier women I've met who have visited Japan were specifically advised to avoid subways during peak hours for their own safety, that means there are some issues. When women need their own fucking compartment on a subway to avoid gropers, that means there's some issues. I could go on, but you'd still be wanking yourself seriously thinking that no one culture is any less sexually predatory than any other.

Imagine that. Being told to avoid places which are most public rather than the places which are least.

You have issues with how Shintoism (especially WWII era) is presented? I guess Iris Chang and countless other historians who all agree that Shintoism was inherently racist ought to be hanged for their heresy.
