Mother Turned-In Siblings After Allegedly Catching Them Having Sex

TRAFFORD, Ala. (April 20) - A brother and sister were arrested on felony incest charges after the man's wife called sheriff's deputies, who allegedly caught the siblings having sex.

Ronald Stewart Howze, 44, of Trafford, and Lori Ann Rotton, 41, of Smyrna, Ga., were arrested around midnight on April 7, said Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian. They remain jailed Wednesday with bond set at $50,000 each.

If convicted, Howze and Rotton could each be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Authorities said Howze's wife believed her husband and his sister were having sex so she called deputies. The wife let the officer into their trailer home, and the deputy saw the siblings having sex in a bedroom, Christian said.

The officer had to twice tell the couple to stop, and the officer's report quoted the man as saying "I guess I'm going to jail" after they finally complied, according to Christian.

Both brother and sister had been drinking, and Rotton was initially taken to a hospital because she appeared so intoxicated, Christian said.

The man told the officer he wanted to "go out crazy" after being diagnosed with cancer, The Birmingham News reported Wednesday.

Tommy McFarland, an attorney representing Howze, said his client told him he could not remember what happened. Howze said he suffers from seizures and asked to see a psychiatrist, according to McFarland.

Rotton is set to make her first court appearance Thursday.

Just to be the devil's advocate here, do you really think that 40 year-old siblings who decide to have consentual sex should face 10 years in prison?

I realize that's pretty fucking gross, but the punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime. Who is the victim in this case, provided the union doesn't spawn a flipper baby?

It probably shouldn't matter one bit if it's not intended to produce children. That's the only reason it should be illegal. Gross to most yes, but it's really no different that gays having sex as long as there are no offspring. The law should be no children, not no sex if you think about it.

I don't have a sister and wouldn't have sex with a sister if I did. I'd also never fuck another guy. Not that there's anything wrong with that for recreational sex! Where do you draw the line for recreational sex? Maybe anal only for 1st cousins or closer relations? I think the line should be drawn at "consenting adults".

The issue:

Is sex to be regulated by what's scientifically suitable to produce offspring or are consenting adults able to have recreational sex with anyone they choose, in any hole they choose?

I don't see how two consenting adults fucking eachother can be considered a crime in any way. I could see how trying to have children could be illegal because of the risk that the child would have deffects, but can't incest also produce stronger than average genetic traits in offspring if your family has a very strong genetic background? I know certain cultures encourage it even.

If the reason for it being illegal is risk towards the child, we should outlaw smoking, drinking, pollution, plenty of medications, and chemically enhanced foods as well. All of which have been proven to cause deffects in children in different cases...

I still think it's sick...but imprisonment seems absurd, especially if they had no intention of having children.

if she was so drunk they took her to the hospital then how can they charge her for the crime. if a man has sex with a woman who is too drunk, he can get charged for rape because she wasn't in a state of mind to give consent.

With the population the size it is now, the few that would have kids wouldn't even cause a ripple in the gene pool. The whole thing is based more of folklore than science anyway, as far as the flipper babies go.

I read on this recently after a different arrest was in the paper. In a pre-industrial or very low tech society the children with defects related to close interbreeding won't likely survive to reproduce consistantly. Negating any ill effects in a generation or two. Societies that practice it extensivly would die out, it's happened apprently.

In our current society, they would survive to reproduce, causing continuing issues to their offspring.

i agree with the above statement...although it is disgusting in my eyes there should be nothing illigal about consenting adults wishing to have sex under any circumstances, the only possible issue is reproduction and giving birth to a weak child
