Cut in money for UN missions

WASHINGTON -- The Senate voted Wednesday to reduce the U.S. share of the cost of United Nations peacekeeping missions by tens of millions of dollars.

The vote reflected criticism of the United Nations after allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the Iraq oil-for-food program and sexual abuses by peacekeepers.

Cool, does that mean American taxpayers can reduce their tax contributions to the US government for the same reasons?

If only it were true...

BTW, I was wondering, can you make enough charitable contributions to completely write off your taxes, or is there a cap on that sort of thing?

well for one, if you got your Adjusted Gross Income down a huge amount from charitable contributions, you should be prepared for an audit =).

for donations of cash, there is a certain threshold (not sure on number, but for example if the check is more than $500) above which you need to submit an additional tax form.

The same holds true for donation of property. If you donate a car that at the time of donation had a fair market value of $3000, you would be required to submit an additional form as well.

regardless, even for smaller items, you theoretically have to be able to prove that you made the donations. but to dodge the question further, there might be a cap on the amount you can write off in a year.

because you can hold over charitable contributions (or a portion thereof) to your next years return, that suggests to me, there may be some kind of cap.

Section 8 describes it, but this is one of the first lines:
The amount of your deduction may be limited to either 20%, 30%, or 50% of your adjusted gross income, depending on the type of property you give and the type of organization you give it to.
"Or else... what?"

"Or else, We will be very, very angry with you, and we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are..."

No surprise there, "peacekeeping" and "warmongering" dont fit together, so of course they drop some peacekeeping cost. Wars might make a profit in oil after all, peacekeeping only cost money :)

You ignorant inbred twat, the US is dependant on outside resources to keep our standard of life how it is. But hey, fuck that lets just destroy the UN and give the EU every incentive to economically cock block us into submission. Especially now that were ass deep in a war that will take us decades to pay for.....
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Why do people still bother to reply to Cartalas? Does anyone but his little crew of buttbuddies take him seriously?
