I told Aranuil last weekend at FF, but I figured I'd announce it here just to make it official. I once was a all-cake, but now

pie > cake

I hope my switch doesn't upset some universal balance.

We had this conversation at FF and I pretty much almost recall nothing of it. I just know we discussed it. In short, I am enjoying my red velvet cake as I type this so....

cake >>>>> pie

I mean come on! There is no icing on pie.

I'm at a loss here. Please tell me what pies have icing on them. I'm not talking about that piddly white decorative shit icing they put on pies either. I'm talking about a big-ass slop of cream cheese or chocolate icing. The kind of icing where you just friggin cut your pieces with minimal cake and maximal icing. Is maximal even a word? I don't care if it's pie or cake - but I want a piece of that!

Since pie isn't such a widespread thing, I will describe myself a cake-man for now. Not religiously, though: consider me an agnostic. You should send me all your pies and perhaps I will see the light...

This is precisely why I need to get Drolgin to the states, and I need to give Hayley some pie. Once you taste the creamy goodness that is a Key Lime pie, you'll never go back.

Also Hayley, we can argue about icing for as long as you like, but remember, pie can be served a la mode, whereas cake a la mode would just be mush. Mush is bad. No one likes mush. :(

The triple choclate cake at Dave and Busters > any pie. It's incredibly rich, I can't finish a piece after a normal meal.

Pies by and large are better I'll admit, but the best cakes are much > pie.

There's just no way this is true. If you'd ever had a strawberry and Banana pie, or a well made peach pie, or cobbler, filled with the freshest ingredients in a flakey sugary crust, you'd never think that cake could be better.

Try a french silk pie in place of that chocolate cake. It tastes better, and you won't have that "OMFG I need a glass of milk now!" feeling after eating it.

Pie > Cake.

/agree, chocolate cakes done RIGHT! Not so much fucking cocoa you have Timmy the Tooth slapping you across the face for eating it. I usually stay away from chocolate cakes for that reason. If it has the word 'suicide' anywhere in the name of the cake then I stay the fuck away. The only good chocolate cake usually comes from a respectable bakery. (READ: Not grocery stores)

But overall I would have to say pie>cake. Especially Banana and Strawberry Creme Pie.

It's all about the cookie

Post by Corona »

Has no one remembered the noble cookie? This versatile delight has been with us for a very long time! Did we not learn from Sesame Street that C is, indeed, for cookie? It's good enough for me! Isn't that good enough for you?!

Cookies come in a variety of forms, much like cakes and pies. They can be frosted with icing or not, and no one will think you are weird. You can mold cookies into much more interesting shapes. Cookies are, on the whole, much more portable than cakes or pies. Cookies can be used as building material (witness the Gingerbread house). Cookies rarely have to be refrigerated, and hold up well in the popular "jar" format container. Cookies are much easier to smuggle into movie theatres than pies and cakes. And cookies can be easily shoved into children's mouths to silence them once the film starts.

You can also manage portions with cookies a lot easier. When you have a particularly large pie piece, you run the risk of not being able to finish your piece. Yet with a cookie, you can just "not have another". This also holds true when used for ammo. A cake or pie is a one (albeit large) shot combat device. But you can keep more cookies on you, and you stand a decent chance at being able to retrieve them for later use. Cookies are the Shuriken of food combat.

But perhaps I've overshot... cookies could be a separate issue from pies and cakes. Perhaps they exist on a whole different karmic dessert plateau.

I had been avoiding this whole debate, as I don't really go for pie or cake. I mean, yeah, there are tasty varieties of either but besides Thanksgiving and the occasional birthday party I don't really eat much of either. Which reminds me, the best type of either is Cheesecake, and thats more of a pie shaped cake, so what's up with that?

But I had to join the fray when I saw that cookies were mentioned.

1. Pie > Cake

2. Do you like your brownies fluffly and "cakey" or heavier and "fudgy"? I have a good friend that makes these kick ass brownies that are actually cake-like but so densely packed that they are rather fudge-like.

3. #2 makes sense in my head, if not in print.

One of the best parts of living in France for half a month on a student exchange was being able to wander the downtown area of the small town of Thonon and pick up a fresh pastry and hot chocolate. (it was a cold month.. November I think). The small bakerys along the cobblestone roads were amazing.

I need to visit France again.

Slice of homemade Pecan Pie after a holiday dinner = priceless. Can't beat it. My grandma had 2 HUGE pecan trees out front of her place in Mississippi. I remember shucking those things for hours, gathering the wonderful pecans for the perfect pie. :)
