If you don't speak English, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY COUNTRY
If you are going to live in the United States, a person needs to learn to speak English.
It is FUCKING BULLSHIT that an American born man has to take a second language in order to get a good job IN HIS OWN COUNTRY because of the influx of immigrants who are too stupid to learn to speak our language. It is even bigger bullshit when you have to take a second language when YOU APPLY FOR A JOB THAT YOU DO NOT SPEAK TO ANYONE BUT A COMPUTER ALL DAY AND THE ONLY LANGUAGE YOU NEED TO SPEAK IS A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE.

Interview for the Network Operations Center -> do you speak Spanish?
Sylvos - No, do I have to in order to fufill tickets in a database to ensure internet connectivity in a city/state/region?
Interviewer for the Network Operations Center - no, but do you speak Spanish at all?
Sylvos - no, do I have to in order to perform the job functions?
Interviewer what languages did you take in college/highschool?
Sylvos - Latin 7? years and Gaelic, helped me out in my ancient history as well as a smattering of olde english.
Interviewer: ah...ok thanks, so you don't speak Spanish.
Sylvos - no. I do not.
Interviewer: ah it looks like you are far more qualified to do this job than the others, oh and looks like you have a healthy list of credientials to back this up. But you aren't bilingual?
Sylvos - thank you and No, I didn't take spanish.
Interviewer - ok thanks, unfortunatley we need someone who speaks Spanish to fill this position.
Sylvos - because ...they have to speak spanish to work in an Oracle based database because?
Interviewer - that's not important, we just need spanish speaking agents even though they will never ever speak to anyone but the other two white guys in the room and the black fella over by the big desk full of monitors who don't speak spanish either.
Sylvos - right gotcha thanks.

Come to Australia, Sylvos. No where enough DBAs and no multilingual requirements (there's just far, far too many 'minorities' for them to be catered to in that way)

Yeah I took 3 years of Latin in high school and really enjoyed it, but living in Texas knowing Spanish is getting to be more important everyday, so I'll probably end up taking it once I get to the point where I take a foreign language in college.

I saw a report on the news last night that New Mexico, who already has to import teachers from Mexico...will need to import at least 1800 teachers from Mexico to fill the shortage of bilingual teachers to teach the ILLEGAL immigrant children that are enrolled in public schools in New Mexico.
I do not give a rat's ass what political affiliation/party you belong to...someone needs to control the flow of illegal immigration into this country. It is ridiculous that any country should have to import teachers from another country to meet the demand to educate illegal immigrants.

As I have said MANY times before, this is America, our primary language is ENGLISH. I'm all for people learning multiple language it's a crime that our pathetic school system doesn't do a better job when most people from Europe can speak at least 3 or more.
I'm all for Gov. sponsored English as a second language classes to help Immagrants, I'm all for mainstreaming the kids into the school system... what I'm NOT for is this teaching in spanish BS. If you don't speak English, then lets help you learn it not spend my tax dollars to teach you in Spanish. If you want school in spanish go back to Mexcio, Spain, El Salvador etc...
My family immigrated from Germany and France hundreds of years ago and guess what? They learned to speak English because they WANTED to be a part of this country. I don't expect people to learn it immediately, it will take time, I just expect them to try. If I moved back to Germany I would fuckin' speak German. If these people WANT to be in the US then they can do like all our other Ancestors did and learn English.
Multilingual signs? sure thing to help people along... making it so that an American citizen can't get a job that has NOTHING to do with being bilingual... bullshit.

I just feel rage stirring whenever i hear someone speaking spanish now.
I don't hate latino's nor any other race.
I do however now hate to hear the language because it now makes me feel like *I* am the one out of place.
That makes me wanna take my briefcase and get breakfast at 10:31.
Falling Down is perhaps one of the greatest movies of all time.

Maybe "do you speak spanish" was him subtly asking if you yourself were an illegal alien, and therefor less likely to demand benefits, or more than slave wages?
Corporate america <3s them illegals! "What? You'll work a 12 hour day for the chance to look at some shiney rocks? Hold on a second while i shit my pants in joy. Qualifications? Nono, I'm sure you'll be fine."

Oh, and at the risk of being on topic, fuck spanish XD

Arizona citizens are organizing an effort to provide additional border observation personnel (aka. undocumented border patrol agents) to assist the US Border Patrol in enforcing the federal immigration laws.
See: http://www.minutemanproject.com/index.html
The Minuteman Project has the Mexican gov't enraged, and it is threatening to sue any US citizen for impeding the progress of "migrant workers" in any way.
Arizona passed Prop 200 last fall, which required proof of citizenship for many social welfare programs (note: not emergency fire/medical aid). It was and is being fought in court as being discriminatory.
Immigration policy is where I differ from Jorge Bush greatly and it pisses me off that nobody in the US governement is taking a hard-line stand to tighten the borders. (STFU Xzion- Juan Kerry wouldn't be doing shit either...)
Illegal immigrants drain BILLIONS from the budgets of southwest border states. California alone is estimated to have lost over 10 billion alone in 2003 (or 2004- I don't remember.)

Fuck the corrupt Mexican government. They have made illegal border crossings policy as they publish comic books on how to cross the border illegally and safely...so they can send their ill gotten gains back to Mexico to stuff the pockets of the politicians.Mak wrote:The Minuteman Project has the Mexican gov't enraged, and it is threatening to sue any US citizen for impeding the progress of "migrant workers" in any way.
Mexico could be a great nation...if it was managed better....
what really bugs me is our government has no problem with paying for all of the social services that these people require, simply to keep labor prices low across the market in general.
for instance, the prices in the Construction industry alone would increase dramatically across the entire southern half of the country if there was no way for undocumented labor to participate.
what kind of effect would that have on the economy? beats me.

"Terrorism is the war of the poor, and war is the terrorism of the rich"
supposedly the Mexican government publishes pamphlets giving their citizens information on how to act once the immigrate. ie: avoid domestic violence because it is a fast way to get deported.
i've heard estimates between $15-30 billion dollars floods back into Mexico annually from immigrants, and this obviously makes it so Fox does not have to have operating social services or an economy which does not exploit the lower class.
these estimates are not from news sources but people talking on conservative talk radio, so may be more like $30 dollars.

Whew. Glad I don't live in Gadsonia. Gadzooks! After engineers advised Gadsden that the most direct and practicable route for the Southern transcontinental railroad would be south of the United States boundary, he made plans to have the Federal Government acquire title to the necessary territory from Mexico. Through his friend and fellow empire dreamer, Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. Gadsden was appointed U.S. Minister to Mexico by President Franklin Pierce with instructions of his own design to buy from Mexico enough territory for a railroad to the Gulf of California.
It was a perfect setup. By the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, signed February 2, 1848, at the close of the Mexican War, the Republic of Mexico was compelled to abandon its claim to Texas and to cede to the United States the territory now comprising most of New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. The territory ceded to the United States by Mexico constituted about 200,000 square miles or two-fifths of all her territory.
In return for this vast territory, the United States gave $15,000,000 and assumed responsibility for paying $3,000,000 in claims of American citizens against the Mexican Government. A large body of public opinion in the United States had opposed the war against Mexico and felt that the Southern republic had been treated badly. The territory desired by Gadsden and his group was then a sort of no man's land, experiencing frequent Indian raids. The United States wanted to make certain "boundary adjustments"; Mexico needed money and wanted a settlement of her Indian claims against the United States; and Gadsden and his friends wanted a route for their railroad. In 1852 Gadsden agreed to pay Santa Anna $10,000,000 for a strip of territory south of the Gila River and lying in what is now southwestern New Mexico and southern Arizona.
Many Americans were not especially proud of the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty and considered the price of the Gadsden Purchase as "conscience money." The Gadsden Purchase has an area of 45,535 square miles and is almost as large as Pennsylvania. This tract of nearly 30,000,000 acres cost Uncle Sam about thirty-three cents an acre.
The deal was so unpopular in Mexico that Santa Anna was unseated as dictator and banished. Gadsden was recalled as Minister to Mexico for mixing in Mexican politics and domestic affairs and did not live to see the Southern Pacific Railroad built through his purchase. When the inhabitants of Arizona asked Congress for a Territorial government in 1854, one of the names suggested for the new Territory was Gadsonia, a Latin adaptation of the surname of James Gadsden.

hmmm, i agree that one shouldnt get a job based on language status unless it requires it...but to be fair we do not have an "official language"
and to hear americans say this is funny, when they go abroad and cant speak a word of any other language while acting as if there pompus and superior for doing so...i hate languages though, would be great if we adapted an international language, all i see is barriers, not a culture or art form in speech
and sylvos what the hell were you doing taking gaelic? heh knowing how to speak gaelic will open so many doors for you in the future

Mexico has a lot of oil but they can't seem to get their shit straight enough to tap into it in a way to make a profit. they spend ten times less than they should bringing their 63 yr old tech up to speed. They are a broken corrupt society that is slowly ruining ours. you Canadians should be worried b/c once they've finished us off they will just keep going north.Pemex's production of close to 3.4 million barrels a day of crude oil puts Mexico among the world's top 10 oil-producing countries. It is also among the top three foreign suppliers of crude to the United States.
Of the 916 million equivalent barrels of oil and gas incorporated last year, 240.8 million were proven, 222.1 million were probable and 453.4 million were possible reserves.

Wtf? How did I get dragged into this? After all I am a completely legal alien who speak English!
Btw I might lean a little left, but I am strongly against illegal immigrants being given rights, against the "need" to know Spanish etc. Oh and I expect a person to learn the language of a country if he decides to live there. However, I will support classes etc to help them learn.
I also believe it is a benefit for all people to learn foreign languages.
Oh.. dra til helvete din forbanne drittsekk!
There.. I am bi+lingual

I figure it this way....
If I move to a country that does not have English as a primary language, YOU BET YOUR ASS I will make sure to learn the local language. As far as a Spanish speaking requirement for an Oracle-based job... WTF?? You should find out if the interviewer is from California or even if he was once upon a time hit with a shit bomb while heading to a protest on a Tennessee college campus. Then you should Nixon him.
