Brothers In Arms

Post by Neziroth »

So I heard (i think it was) rellix talking about this in IRC, I read a few reviews and ended up buying it.

Let me just describe a fight for you in this game to give you an idea of the depth:

So I'm coming up into a town with my two squads of two men each, one with rifles and the other is using a shorter range sub machine gun.

Out of nowhere a group of about 4 enemies opens up on us, my men start yelling and firing back until I give the order for them to break formation and take cover.

Then I move the rifle squad into a better position behind a broken wagon, and have them start firing back at the group of enemies, this supresses them enough where I can have my machine gun group start following me around the building that the enemies are next to to flank them.

With the rifle group distracting the enemies, we sneak around and open fire on them from the side. One of the enemies charges at us and one of my men beats the hell out of him with his rifle, while two others are just gunned down instantly.

The last one tries to run away but the only way to go was toward the rifles, so he's shot, too.

After a fight like that I was like... holy shit this game rules. The fight built up and went on for about 5 minutes and then ended in about 5 seconds after planning and execution - a pretty satisfying experience.

A typical fight against 4 or 5 enemies can last up to 15 minutes or more, while you try to supress, maneuver, etc.

The voice acting rules, the story line is pretty good too (ww2 story but charactarization is amazing)

The huge amount of little details that are in this game is just unbelievable.

When a bullet lands in front of you it kicks mud up onto your face and it gets in the way of your view for a second.

If a shell explodes next to you it knocks you down, your ears ring and you get the whole "Saving Private Ryan" shellshock effect.

Your men scream insults at the enemies, and they yell right back at you while you're fighting

The sound effects of bullets wizzing by, hitting the dirt and objects around you coupled with the gunfire and the clanking sound those rifles make when you run out of ammo, the planes flying overhead, and the subtle music make it such an engrossing experience.

And the multiplayer - it sounds really fun but I haven't gotten to try it yet. It's not just a deatmatch, but it's two players each controlling a squad of men trying to complete objectives like delivering secret papers to the other side of a town while the other player tries to set up an ambush and stop him.

So yeah, 10/10 is my first impression of this game (I have it for PS2 btw, it's out for PC and X-box also I believe)

It's an excellent game. Best yet for WW2 type games.

I've played it on the X-Box platform. Placement of your squad is key. Nice storyline and character acting.

While this game may very well own, I am tired of seeing WW2 games. It is time to find something else to beat into the ground.

There is an overkill of WW2 and Vietnam games right now. All that can be said is that this is probably the best one yet so if people haven't played a war game in awhile, this would be the one to get.

I want games that involve humans in some way in the game. I'm tired of aliens and freaky creatures.

I completely agree. The only shooters I find enjoyment in are the more realistic ones. I don't like shooting demon spawned cheerleaders from Mars. Let me put a bullet or two in them and watch them die.

Just say No to Boss Mobs.

Thirded.

This is one of the reasons I hated HALO. Killing neon green aliens that were giggling like idiots just didn't do it for me. (yes I realize the whole game's not like that).

Man the grunts are the BEST part about halo. They have some pretty funny one-liners every now and again. Like if you move silently into a room and they dont notice you, they'll be carrying on a conversation. One time one of them went, "Where's the demon?" The other one goes, "Probably about to kill me!" First one says, "Hello, duh!"

Then I shot them. :P

I played Brothers in Arms when it first came out and was just not impressed at all for some reason. Though after a few weeks I kept getting the urge to play it again, and once I started playing it again I couldn't put it down.

Game is so good, I now give it 3 thumbs up!

I've beaten it a few times already. Course the first one was limited to "hard" but when I unlocked Authentic, it was way easy, authentic. Things actually die fast, and at that point, I was good enough at the weapons to where I didn't miss all that often.

I'd give it a 7.0 out of 10. Good graphics, intense gameplay, interesting story line (WW2), overall a good game.
