WEST COAST REALMS - DOWN 24 HOURS

Post by Diae Soulmender »

Before reading this and flipping out... its a good thing to happen. It will fix out issues.

For those of you not on these affected servers... BITE ME! --hehe

Regarding Recent Realm Performance – 3/10/05 | 3/10/2005 6:58:11 PM PST

Last night, certain realms experienced a hardware failure that forced us to perform emergency maintenance. We were able to implement a temporary fix to the problem this morning that allowed players to log on to these realms and play. Unfortunately, players continued to experience performance issues throughout the day.

In order to apply a more permanent fix, the affected realms must be moved to new hardware. We have begun performing maintenance on 10 realms, and we will bring down another 10 realms later this evening. A list of affected realms is posted below. During this hardware upgrade, these realms will be unavailable to players. This extended downtime is necessary in order to fix the stability and performance issues that have hampered these realms in the past. Players with characters on these realms will receive a 5-day time extension for the downtime incurred during this maintenance. Also, we realize that some players may have been disconnected outside of a major city or inn. Therefore all characters on these realms will receive a full rest-state bonus.

The downtime is expected to last approximately 24 hours. We’ll do our best to provide you with constant updates throughout the maintenance period. We thank you again for your patience during this time.

Realms currently down:

Lightbringer
Kilrogg
Frostwolf
Blackrock
Doomhammer
Kel'Thuzad
Dethecus
Uther
Kil'Jaeden
Deathwing

Realms scheduled for maintenance:

Gorgonnash
Hyjal
Icecrown
Proudmoore
Ner'zhul

Certain posters enjoy criticizing other companies when their servers have rare extended downtimes.

For the west Coasters on these realms an outage/downtime is not 'rare' in the least. These servers have had nothing but problem after problem for months now. Blizzard finally pulled there head out of there collective asses and ponied up the dough to replace all of our servers to stabilize and increase our performance.

I swear to god they were running us clustered Pentium 486 DX2 66's....--hehe

Hmm... dosen't effect me but I almost wish it did. Five free days and a full rest bar? If you aren't already 60 that's a pretty nice deal and you can take your significant other out on the town and not be jonesing for WoW :)

I would take the 5 free days and full rest bar as well. It's a pretty nice exchange for 24 hours of downtime.

Certain other companies have less players on all their servers worldwide than Blizzard has on just its West Coast servers. If you are going to come in and talk shit, remember that the other company is being "omg! pwnz0r3d!" by Blizzard in box sales and subscription fees. It is not an excuse for their problems, but in the words of Sean Connery "...just like a Wap; brings a knife to a gun fight". The two companies are not going through the same issues with the other company handling it better; the comparison is apples to oranges. I imagine that the other company would have had serious problems handling 4-5x the playerbase that they were expecting.

To be fair, I think Blizzard has had the crapped kicked out of them by their own marketing & sales machine; I honestly hope that they sort this all out for the future of the whole MMO market.

Argumentative?

Yes.

Defensive?

No.

edit: You didn't try to argue my points, so I will assume that you are willing to concede that the two companies aren't playing in the same size sandboxes.

All of these issues could be solved if they used 8-bit ISA...

The purpose of my original post was to point out how childish some VV posters are...

I couldn't care less about extended server outages in WOW... I certianly wouldn't care enough to start a thread in this forum if your servers happened to be unexpectedly down for a few hours.

I am under the impression that it takes 10 days off line to max your Rested-State.

This is pretty close to the time frame. I believe the max is around 2 full bars (or that's it at level 51). I took off for around a month before going back, and I had the rest exp to get me to almost 54 with few quests and the normal daily rest xp accumulation.

As far as I know it's capped at 30 bubbles, or 1.5 levels. However, any experience other than kill experience doesn't affect it. So all your quest xp and shit doesn't take away from your rest.
