Al Sharpton-another enemy of the 1st amendment

Post by Xzion »

Al Sharpton is now trying to push the FCC to impose a 90 day ban on artist that have commited violent acts in the past, or use violence to promote there music, i thought of him as more of a social liberal but it seems that he is now no better then these extreme out of the mainstream conservatives trying to weaken our 1st amendment rights of free speech as much as possible

I couldnt find a link from a reliable source yet, although i did just hear this information on CNN...heres a link from a site i googled

http://blogs.sohh.com/connect_politic/a ... calls.html

I have no problem by a legal standpoint with privately owned radio stations refusing to play a certain type of music, but when he lobbys to government programs such as the FCC to impose this authoritarian stance it is once again violating our freedom

I agree with this. Punk ass bitches who are hood rats, or some white bitch wannabe that have records that deal with violence should be controlled. Why allow these animals who have done nothing but help themselves be allowed to make money off songs on airwaves that are controlled by the FCC.

Im all for the rights of Americans. But rapping or singing songs about your past/what you did or such is and making millions off of being trash is just wrong. Why award these people for being what they are? Its a sad time when people want to be just as savage as these people.

I agree with your stance on those voilent rappers, i dont really listen to rap (some spearhead or roots every once in a while) or care for the music, but i do believe there rights should be protected under the 1st amendment, just because i dont like something doesnt mean im going to support someone forcing there belifs on others...
if you dont like rappers, dont listen to there godamn songs, the FCC should have no involvement over these airwaves and freedom of speech should be preserved in all aspecs

apparently by the statement after that bold quote, your not by any means...

No where did I just say Rap.

I dont listen to much, but I listen to some. And although its far from classy, I would still let my 14 year old sister listen to what I do.

The point is this. The airwaves are FREE to recive. Hence the reason the FCC can control it. Same thign thats happening to Howard Stern all the time. Some people are offended by what he says and does. I agree, dont listen to it. But the point is, ANYONE at ANY AGE can listen to it.

Its like if your a father, and your 11 year old daughter turns on TV *you dont have cable* and she can watch porn at anytime she wants as long as you dont know. I really dont think you would like that, I know I wouldnt

Of all things in the past 15 years. Rap and Alt/rock/and pop music have DEFINED the fads, attuides, and even to cars. It is a wide spread item that can influance at any age, no matter what type of music. Is it right for a free item that is watched over by the Government, that can influance young kids who LOOK up to these people be allowed to? I think so and many other people do. Is it right? I believe so since its a free government controlled product.

As I was at work today. I had the local rap station on and they had a 14 year old girl request Juice, i think it was. jesus that song is nothing but a " heres how im going to fuck you" song. totally wrong.

If these kids want to listen to this crap so bad. And their parents want them to listen to it, then they can buy them the CD/Tape or XM or Siruis radio. Otherwise 80% of the parents dont care or know what their kids watch or listen to. Compare how parents were 30+years ago to today, and you will see excatly why shit like this is on the radio.

Im not for the rights of Americans? Yea ok. Think whatever you want

It would be my job as a parent to regulate what my child watches and to teach them the difference in good or bad programing...THAT or if its that big of an issue to some parents, they can always not buy a TV or turn on there radio, or buy a V chip or another item that doesnt allow the TV to show children bad programming...the possibilitys are endless, my FREEDOM of speech should not be stripped from me because of lousy parenting

its simple, as long as there is demand for a product, in the free media or otherwise, people should be free to expose it, without authoritarian regulations

I'm sorry but I can't agree with that crap.

If you don't like it, change the station/channel.

I TOTALLY agree that I think violent songs are BS but legislation is NOT the answer, the FCC is too powerful as it is.

So how do you win this battle? Hit them where it counts, the pocketbook. If Sony drops 10M to promote some looser with hate speech, boycott Sony. I can promise you they will not do it again. If you don't want your kids watching porn, don't buy it. If it's free, find a way to block it. If you don't want them looking at it on the Internet you can buy software/hardware to keep them from looking at it until they are old enough to pay their own way.

We all talk about freedom all the time, freedom of choice is something very important to the success of this country. There are many ways of keeping people and children from the things you don't agree with but all those take time and effort. Too many Americans aren't willing to give that and want to take the easy way out... personally I call bullshit.

Rock and Roll and comic books lead to juevenile delinquency and truancy.

On a lighter note - it upsets me much more that some ex-felons are not allowed to vote after release. I actually don't mind this idea, at first thought. The airwaves are public, as in, they exist to serve the public as well as make $ for Clear Channel.

Temporairly taking away someone's right to make $ via public airwaves for comitting a felony doesn't seem so bad.

Of course, what if they wanted to go on public radio to talk about how they found Jesus in jail, or talk about the correctional system itself? Where do you draw the line? You can't. Bad idea. Scrub it, Al - and get a new haircut, too.

You all are too high, go drink a coke and come down some.

The only way get rid of Al Sharpton is to ignore him like the DNC does every election.

You know what we need to ban? Crap shows like The Simple Life, Sweet 16, pretty much any show MTV pumps out (sans the Osbournes because Ozzy still makes me laugh).. I acutally watched an episode of Sweet 16 where Ceelo's fat cow of a daughter was throwing a birthday party, and every 3 seconds this dumb bitch would go off about how shes going to be the next Beyonce or how she was such a diva.. please, if your daddy wasn't well off you'd be some mammoth bitch nursing your third illegitimate child at the age of SIXTEEN.

I sure hope so. Because one doesn't have anything to do with the other and only detracts from the real question at hand.

Wow, I agree the christian channels suck, I think it has something to do with technical/creative acumen and how it relates to your tendancy to be free thinking.

All the christian networks have horrible progamming, I am not talking the fact that they are preachy and condescending, but the actual technical merit of the writing, production, acting, hell even sets, costumes, and lighting which are almost universally dismal.

I agree "Ban the Christian Channels!"

Playboy Channel is doing softcore sex and they have better technical/creative merit.
