Horror movie based games

Post by Nilaman »

I was going through some old home movies the other day. One was of my fifth birthday, one of the last presents I got was Friday the 13th for NES.

I remember that game scared the shit out of me for the longest time, but I could not stop playing it because Jason was not dead.

I do not remember seeing any horror movies being made into games since... well, NES I believe.

So I am wondering, are there any horror movie games for the newer systems? If Playboy can have a game then surely there is a horror movie game out there.

I think lately the movies have been based off of the games. (Resident Evil, etc.)

true. Maybe constantine? Im sure they made a game out of that one, and its supposidly a great movie, but that doesnt always mean its a great game, but worth a shot if youre into it.

Well, heres a list:

The Alien games
Arachnophobia
A load of Dracula games
The Dark Half (yep, they made a game too, god only knows why)
The Elvira games
A load of Frankenstein games

And thats just on top of my head.
Unfortunately, good horror games are QUITE rare, movie based or not. Personally i find the Resident Evil type of games quite boring, which leave out 90% of the horror games, because its all that a PS2 playing teenager can find out :)

Then there was Clive Barkers Undying, which was a boring version of Resident evil, where mobs showed up ALL the time.

I actually dont think i played a good horror game since Phantasmagoria 2 (ok, the ending sucked, but the rest of the game was SCARY).

But if you want horror games, just wait for Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corner of the Earth, now thats one game i think got a chance to remake the horror genre.
And of course in being in the horribly underused (yes, both in movies and games) Cthulhu universe that Lovecraft created.

Ehh well its not based off a movie (that I'm aware of) but you should try Fatal Frame 1 or 2 for (for both PS2 or Xbox i think). Make sure you're home alone and all the lights are off. Play is somewhat similar to RE but you got a camera instead of a gun. As always, I recommend renting first before buying.

Movie from first game here:

Movies from 2nd one can be found here:
Clickie2!

Dreamworks and Spielberg picked up the rights to make Fatal Frame into a movie...

The Alone in the Dark Series is being made into a movie (althought it looks quite dumb) but I heard the games were ok

Yep, theyre making Alone in the Dark, with Christian Slater i think.
At least they seems to have dumped some of the first ideas, saw a first trailer where like half of it were outside, and outside as in on streets in NY or someplace, lots of cars, not ouside some creepy manor at night.
Saw another trailer recently, better, but still nothing that should be allowed to have the Alone in the Dark name on it.

Best horror game I've played to date has to be The Suffering. Not a movie, but definitely could be. Great game.

Well it was those houses that used to fuck me up.

Room. Room. Room. Room. Fireplace. Hall. Room. Room. Backtrack time. Room. Fireplace. Room. Room. Wait..what was the way out again? Hall. Fireplace. Room. Room. Jason. Fuck.

And even if you managed to kill him off there, he was not gone yet.
