Gran Turismo 4

Post by Rayquan »

Went out to the store today (Electronic Boutique) and didnt expect to find many games available. Walked in and saw a wall full of copies of GT4. Bought it went home and played it.

Now b4 I bought it I;ve read many many different opinions of this game. It blows, it sucks, its awsome, its god, etc.

If you are a GT fan and really enjoyed the realism of GT3, Id suggest buying it, but if you're not a GT fan, never played GT3, or even if u didnt like it, or if uve never even played a racing game before, its most likely not for you.

I play a lot of racing games (from Need for speed 1-2, to Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune), and its not like those games at all, its basically GT3 with a few more awsome things to do, better graphics, and a lot more realisitc driving.

Things to note that are better than GT3 in GT4;

1) B-Spec mode:

This basically is your the "conductor" of your driver , you're at the sideline telling him what to. I havent really fucked around with this a whole lot, but from what ive played its basically just spectator mode, and if your car wins, you win. You can tell him the slow down, speed up, try and pass the driver, bump, etc. Ive fooled around for one race trying this, and each time I did anything the driver didnt seem to do much. You can also view a driving chart sayign all kinds of info on the current race, and you can watch the other cars too (including first person view).

2) Photo's:

I havent touched this yet, but apparantly there is a mode where you set your car up on one of the many beutiful tracks and take photos of it, you can save them and even use a USB-chord-> Printer, to print the pictures. from what I hear its good quality stuff.

3) Cars, cars, CARS!:

LOTS of cars, over 700 from what I hear. When you first start you have a choice to transwer 2 Liscenses (A and B) along with up to 100,000 Cr's from, GT3. I did this and explored the car dealerships. I ended up buying a Mustang GT '05, and a Dodge SRT-4 Neon.

Big change is that there are dealerships all over the world (seperated by countries) and then the make's, then the models. There are also two different "used car lots". These are updated weekly, they hold cars from 60's-80's, to the 80's-late90's. They come with a nice amount of milage on them, along with crap oil.

Anyway, thats my little review for anyone who hasnt bought this game yet. Go buy it.

I've read you can still ride cars into the wall to prevent yourself from crashing. The AI has never been the series' strong suit so I guess three years and countless dollars were allocated to secure the music as opposed to creating a driver worth racing against (since the online aspect was removed).
Seems like it's really a game to get a feel for driving your favorite cars since there's so many to choose from. That'll be enough for me to get it once the price drops in 10 months.

This game really fucking rocks. The car customization aspect is awesome, and the ability to NOT drive all the races to collect money and get into a top notch car is very nice. While the AI is stupid, you CAN hook it up over a LAN connection, so if you know a couple friends with PS2s...

run into a wall in this game and the car shakes, your view shakes, and the car basically stops, and u are "crippled" for a second or two.

The only thing i had beef with in GT3 was how easy it was to get an F1 car. I just went from begginner mode, to getting the fatest car in the game (buy winning one endurance race, then using that F1 car to win more to buy a escudo with over 1700 hp)

i didnt even feel like beating ameuture mode or pro mode just cuz i felt like i had already beaten the game. But I did get all my liscenses (good clean fun)

I only have an XBox, and no PS2, so no GT4 for me. :(

I'm just hoping that Forza Motorsport for XBox turns out to be a winner. (If it ever gets released)

All I remember about GT3 (no ps2 here) is that my friend would put weights on his X key and just tap the left button for hours. For some reason, even though 100+ lap races were completely boring, he was addicted to it.

GT4 is nice but is sure could use a few more gigaflops powering it. PS2 is stretched to its limits.

Project Gotham Racing 2 is my favorite semi realistic racing game...can't wait for PGR3 on the New X-Box!

honestly it's just more of the same...the game hasn't done much except add a lot of cars and more tracks and tweaked the graphics some

i felt like i was doing the same exact liscense tests 8 or so years ago on the first GT and on every one since...so returning it today

something needs to be done to make this series fresh again

So they add more tracks and a shitload more cars, push the graphics as far as the PS2 can handle, and all you can do is bitch about the license tests? What more do you want in a racing game?

i've had the AI try to run me into the wall and have been much more aggressive than GT3. i love the new car selection, that alone was enough to make it worth buying. i also liked that you could load saved information from your GT3 games onto GT4. if you loved (not necessarily liked it) the previous one then it's worth the buy.
