Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz gave senate testimony that 'in the coming weeks', 10% of our forces in iraq are coming home.

this is good news for all..

Now they will have to step up their border patrols :)

No but seriously that's a step in the right direction...I hope many more to come soon.

For those that don't frequent VV IRC, Lohrno was seriously worried about Mexico invading the United States while "all" of our troops were over in the middle east.

Thanks for misrepresenting me.

I said that Mexico COULD invade with almost all our troops depolyed overseas. It's undeniable that with a majority of our troops in another country doing something useless that our defenses are not as good as if they weren't.

More accurately you might have said the glass is 90% empty.

I'm not too surprised, those extra 15,000 troops were just there for the election. Many of them were due home sooner but had their tours extended so they'd be there for the election.

Looking at North America only

Total Personnel

Definition: Total armed forces (2000)

Amount
1. United States 1,366,000
2. Mexico 193,000
3. Canada 59,000

Military expenditures

1. United States $276.7 billion (FY99 est.)
2. Canada $7.861 billion (FY01/02)
3. Mexico $4 billion (FY99)
4. Bermuda $4.028 million (January 2002)

Even with 150k off in Iraq, I think the threat from Mexico remains, pretty much zero.

No, thankfully they seem to stay there. Still not sure why :)
