ive been eargerly awaiting his next movie since tennenbaums and he did not disappoint

unbeleivable cast/acting
quirky, but very different feel from the rest of his movies

if you liked his other movies(bottlerocket, rushmore, tennenbaums) go see it

Ugh I really want to see this, as I have loved his last 3 movies. Too bad it's playing nowhere near me. :?

I guess I am just not cool enough because, in my opinion, this movie sucked so bad I can't even describe it. There is nothing funny If you think speaking in monotone voices with almost no emotion the whole movie is interesting or great acting then go see it.

Tyek, did you see the Royal Tenenbaums? His movies definetly are one of a kind, and more of a preferred taste than anything else mainstream right now. I love the style of his movies and find them extremely funny, while my wife just doesn't get them at all.

I too am probably not cool enough for this movie.

I did see Rushmore and laughed at these lines though:

"These are O.R. scrubs."

"O.R. they?"

I was going to go see this one, looked like it might be good. I liked the royal tenenbaums, but none of the others listed.

If you want to see a truly shitty, plotless, pointless movie with bill murray in it, check out lost in translation. He is a great actor but I think he may need to watch the roles he chooses a bit closer.

Rushmore was ok.

I just think it was a stupid movie, Is it funny that he gets a very fake looking Crayon Seahorse? There were maybe 4 funny parts in the movie, like when the hijackers left their dog. Otherwise my wife and our friends all looked at each other and said, "There goes 2 hours we can never get back."

Maybe it is just me, I watched Ju-On this week too and found it was pretty much crap too. I guess I would rather see a Hollywood special effect ghost then a guy painted black or blue. I have not seen the Gurdge movie that was made from the script of Ju-On, but the previews alone were freakier then the original.

This was one of the funniest movie of the year. Though consider this: I was one of 2 people in the theater laughing. The two people I was with said it was horrible, because they couldn't understand it. This movie is filled with hidden cross references and very dry humor. If really dry sarcasm isnt your cup of tea, then don't see it. But I will say that I thought it was better than his other movies.

Jeff Goldblum was fucking hilarious too.

Excuse me? He should watch the roles he takes based off your perception of his performance for Lost in Translation? The role he was nominated for an academy award for?

The only thing that saved Lost in Translation from being a complete steaming pile of poo was Scarlett Johansen's breasts.

Bill Murray is so fucking weak now it's sad. When I saw the trailer for The Life Moronic, all it took was that one scene where he's standing there rocking slightly in that silver wetsuit for me to swear never to see this movie.

It's a shame that all you got out of Lost in Translation was her breasts since, while they were extremely fine, there was a lot going on in the movie. But I guess if things don't follow the standard Hollywood formula it flies over the heads of the general public. Hooray for not being general! The only thing Bill Murray has done that comes to mind as something I didn't like was his bit in Cigarettes and Coffee, but then that entire film was an abject lesson in tedium and he was still possibly the best part about it.

I thought Where the Buffalo Roam was pretty weak, but that was back in 1980.

Dregor, I know there was a lot going on in the movie. To me it seemed the characters were abstractions and somewhat orthogonal to reality, and that the scenes were non sequiturs with little holding them together. That and Bill Murray's somewhat expressionless delivery, while maybe having deeper meaning within the context of his role, seemed to me like every other character he played in recent movies (Tannenbaums and Rushmore come to mind). Overall the movie didn't click with me at all.

Keep in mind the "poo" comment was solely my opinion and that clearly others may have greatly enjoyed this flick. Aside from the spectacular mams of Scarlett, it didn't do it for me.

Because something is abstract and isn't in the cookie cutter mold of typical hollywood movies doesn't automatically make the movie great. I'm starting to get the feeling that some people here will watch a movie and the less they understand it and the more disjointed the movie is, the better they think the movie is. Some movies out of the usual mold are outstanding but not all for sure and you don't have to like them to feel like you fit into the avant-garde fnord. Perhaps it's a touch of an Independant Movie Channel overdoes. Lost in Translation had some interesting bits in it but overall it was a pretty slow and drawn out movie.

As for Bill Murray, I thought his best acting was in The Razor's Edge. It's one of his few non comedy movies and revealed his acting range.

wes andersons movies are not for everyone
film, like music is open to wholly different words of taste
i personally enjoy offbeat/non-center movies, not because they are different, but because normal hollywood crap makes me want to do just that
i had not been to the theatre in months(im basically boycotting movies since they added fucking commercials to the previews and charging the same at the door)
the previews they showed made me want to laugh and cry, both at the fact that people made these things, and that people are going to see them

bill murray is an outstanding actor and has had a pretty much perfect career, hes the only person from that 'school' of actors still working pretty much(unless you call what eddie murphy is doing working)

but hey, one of my fav movies is mulholland drive, so take it for what its worth

I do not think my comment makes me clueless on film. I do not think Bill Murray is a bad actor. I do not like movies like lost in translation, where people jump on the "hey its not a typecast movie" bandwagon because I do not feel the need to be different. I also agree with whomever said that people seem to think that a movie being different makes it gold in some peoples minds. I don't understand this logic.

I would read a book if I wanted to be deep in thought, I go to the movies to be entertained- and a plot is a fairly integral part of that process.
The whole monotonous, bland thing this director seems to make his trademark is borderline obnoxious for me after the first time.

Doesn't make them bad movies in any sense, I just do not care for them.

I saw Eternal Sunshine tonight and I thought that was a much better film then the Life Aquatic. It had an actual story, although I would have run from that chick the moment I saw the Potato Head Figures she made.

Well...I'll put myself in the group of people who thought this movie was a stinker. I love dry humor, and admittedly there were 2-3 chuckles in this flick, but overall I thought it was terrible. But hey...to each his own.

wes anderson sucks at movies... rushmore put me to sleep and the royal tennenbaums wasn't even worth the 30 minute download.
however, this movie was a riot thanks to bill murray.

I loved this movie. Had great style, and enjoyable story, humorous and as someone said about "quirky" which is really why I love it. Bill Murray is such a great actor, and the cast was all fantastic.

Rented this over the weekend, great movie. Dry sarcasm works pretty good for me I guess.

Didn't care for Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums was great IMO.

Murray has skill as an actor regardless of his roles. He can portray whatever character he wants to and from what I've seen lately, he's been trying to move away from his origins to attempt to diversify himself. I still haven't gotten around to see the Life Aquatic, but I did see Lost in Translation.

His talent was in a no way diminished in LiT, but honestly, the script could have easily been better. I'm not sure, but I kind of suspect much of it's acclaim came from the fact that it was written/directed by the famed writer/director Francis Ford Copola's daughter. The academy isn't exactly exempt from a little bit of nepotism from what I saw.
