Nice, is that available for download or is there just some private server set up somewhere? That could be fun to play with.

Some servers blow, some rule. Takes a little time fooling around to find a good one. If one is green it seems to be a bit better.

You can't set up your own server with the software, though?
You can. However, there are some limitations so don't expect an exact replica.

Hmm, with that you can explore zones without dying. Careful Xou, don't want people accusing you of cheating because you're not visiting zones the way Verant intended!

vexthal

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

Yup. I was able to se Vexthal and all the PoP zones. No other way I would have been able to see them. It's a cool novelty to pass the time till AC2 and SWG come out, for me anyways.

It would be neat to have your own server to play on, but then we wouldn't have anything fun to talk about here. =D

eqw

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

no problem :)

Copy over an older version of the eqw.dll file to the everquest directory. The version in the 3.11 dowsload from eqemu makes it screwy.

Xou you can setup your own server. I did it and had a couple of boxes hitting it on my home network.

cakewalk

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

Yup. Just re-download the eqw info. Extract it and right-click drag the eqw.dll file into the Everquest foldar and copy it to the Everquest folder.

I am of course assuming you have EQW.

emulator...

Post by Nuggun »

Does this emulator come with the pre-determined mobs/ spawn spots?
For example:
I want my guild to raid...lets say..servitor of luclin.. but lets assume i didn't know the way... could i "create" the zone and run through it with a character to see how much the mobs hit for and to see where i need to go for the boss mob, so i can say to them...yes we can do this .. or no it's too hard still?

Just curious.

Did you download the patch from eqemu.net? The emulators do not yet work with the newest version of EQ so they provided a link (http://eqemu.net/~hogie/eqfix/eqfix.zip). ((If you're new to unzipping files, click the link and when you're asked open/save, click Open. When the file is done, a folder will open. Select all the files (Edit->Select All, or by dragging a box around them) and hit Edit->Copy. Then go to -My Computer-, select C:, then Program Files, then EverQuest. Then pick Edit->Paste. You will be asked about overwriting files. Pick Yes to All. If your installation of EQW is in the same directory, it will be broken))

Then you also need the proper eqhost.txt (http://www.eqemu.net/eqhost.txt) in your Everquest directory as well ((Right click, save target as. Browse to C:\Program Files\Everquest).

For those interested in running a server, the server doesn't Come with spawns, or items even, but there are downloads available that have spawns and items recorded from eq-live. There are several hacked items, and if you run your own server, you can make whatever items you want as well.

I think that's asking a little too much of it. Although you don't have to 'create' the zone, it just uses your zone files in your EQ directory. Zones like VT that have portals to other areas wont be accessible to you directly, since eqemu (not sure on EtheralQuest (or whatever) wont have that info. Luckily door info isn't there by default, so you don't have to worry about keys. Also, things like traps, quests, roamers, and triggered mobs don't exist, so your raid on Sevitor wont be like a real raid. Mobs special abilites (like AE and procs) are also not there unless specifically programmed, so everything ends up being melee.

Mob info isn't there by default either but you can load addons into the database that will populate zones. However, the spawn database as it exists today is rather messy and there's a lot of mob duplication. Also, since that info was gathered with SEQ don't expect to see populated PoP zones anytime soon.

Some of the servers setup these days have spent a lot of time fixing and customizing those things, but the one you set up for yourself "out of the box" will be lacking. The best part about an emulator is just to summon some items and explore zones you probably wont be seeing for awhile. If you want the actual EQ experience, log on to the live servers.

At least that's what I hear. I don't actually run it myself because that would be considered cheating!
