Bowling for Columbine

Post by Rivera Bladestrike »

I just saw this movie this tonight and I was blown away by it, I've never seen a documentary that was both utterly hilarious, controvercial, and informative. Its a two hour film and its not in a whole lot of theatres, but it was probaly the best thing I've seen in theatres this year (not saying OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS), but I felt compelled to tell others about it... It was about the incredible gun problem in the United States, gave a huge amount of satire against american society that just makes you think... See it if its in theatres, definately worth while.
Heres a link for the main website with a trailer:
http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/
Edit: I figured you guys needed to know what the opening scene was, Michael Moore, went to a bank where you would get a gun for opening an account... and you would be handed the gun over the counter along with your bank statement... Just a little dangerous to be handing out guns at a bank? Along with other facts like a town named Virgin, requires all citizens to own guns.

Actually Kyoukan, the movie portrays Canada in a great light, siting how absolutely no one locks their doors, and a part of the movie, they had a canadian sheriff of a city of 70,000 people, with 1 gun murder in the last three years, and the crime was committed by a guy from Detroit.

And apparently you didn't even bother to read what I wrote, since you wrote the exact opposite in response....

Funny story about this. A guy in Montreal came back to his car to find his doors locked but a 25$ fine on his front seat.

Apparently the police in Montreal, when they see a car with unlocked doors, will lock them and leave the fine as a service charge for having locked the door. I saw this on a french current affairs show.

(I lock my doors btw. Always have)

Well, basically the guy went around and opened people's doors as whether or not the rumor was true, sure enough, opened a bunch of doors and they were all open. But that wasn't really what the point of the stunt was, they had gone over how the U.S. as a nation is always kept scared by the media etc with things like killer bees, murderers, diets that can kill you, etc. And it keeps everyone up tight (remember when the news was all talking about how americans were getting gas masks after sepetember 11th), while canadians are much more laid back and trusting of their neighboors... though this may be biased to get across a point, but the movie explained it reasonably and logically in detail (see it!).

Taking shit to heart around here is a good sign that you shouldn't post. I mean really, if the anon pixels on your screen hurt your feelings, then reading this board is not for you.

Anyone that posts or reads here on a semi regular basis would know in an instant that Kyo was fucking with you in his own special way. Flame Kyo or anyone else if you want, but at least get the fucking joke first or else you look like a tool.

Yes, this movie was good, but I am big fan of Micheal Moore so I'm a little biased ;)

I read the boards all the time, and frankly I found the comment harsh for someone kidding around with me, especially when they don't know you. Its like a guy walking up to you on the street and calling you a piece of shit with a straight face on, you don't take it as if hes fucking with you, so you get defensive.

I've always read the boards, I know the rules well Zamtuk, read them since I started playing EQ, I've never bothered to post for one reason, I'm not good at flaming others, and so I posted something that I felt was important for others to read... course, kyoukan had to be a bitch and ruin something that should have been a thread without flames.

If you want something straight, post it as *FF* (flame free). Pretty much everyone will hold back except for Kyoucan. Of course she is a venomous cunt, so you really don't want to read anything she has to say. I have found that you can put her on STFU mode and just do a Google search on any subject to see what she has to say.

We should have a contest to see who can post a *FF* that gets the most people suspended (assuming we went by old FV rules). I think I hold the record! Ah well, it's an easy way to get rid of Kyoukan for a week.

Back on topic, I just bought and watched the first season of "The Awful Truth" on DVD. I also highly recommend this series by Micheal Moore. Lots of eye opening segments and facts, as usual. I love the way he destroys Public Relation Reps in front of the camera.

There was one segment imparticular that really hits home. An HMO was not offering to cover this guys kidney transplant. This guy was going to die without one. So Micheal Moore and the transplant man go to the Home office of the HMO and try to talk to the CEO. Instead they throw a PR man at them. The PR guy is throwing all this fucking bullshit at them as to why he has no comment or reasons why he is not covered. Micheal Moore's simple response was "But this man is going to die". It was just the 3 of them and a camera man in this little room. The PR guy was sweating bullets and I swear you could see his conscience poking through the BS as he realized what he was saying is that his company's decision was going to kill this man. Micheal Moore starts asking the PR guy if he has kids because this guy does, and on and on. Eventually, security is called and they are escorted out. I receptionist in the lobby says "You have my sympathy". The man replies something like "Your sympathy will not save my life. I need a kidney." You could just see the shock on this woman's face. The man had a joke T-shirt with something like "I paid into my HMO for seven years and all I got was this lousy T-shirt." And on the back it says "...but I need a kidney to save my life." He took his shirt off in the lobby and handed it to the PR guy as they were leaving and his cathader was hanging out. It was the most humiliating thing I have seen in a long time. Very pitiful. You could tell this guy was on his very last option. So finally, the PR guys and security get them out of the building, only to have a hearse and mock funeral awaiting them on the front lawn of their headquarters. The whole time this is going on, facts about how HMOs get rewards for denying claims and how many trasplants you could do based on the CEO's last bonus. It really strikes at your heart and shows you how corrupt and just plain wrong our health care system really is.

Micheal Moore proves his points with humor and drives it home with emotion. Everyone should have to watch Roger & Me in their economics class to see what business desisions can do to people and communities.
