Abortion

Post by Atokal »

To clarify peoples views on abortion...
I realize there are many other opinions but I have tried to put down the most popular stances.

This poll sucks btw.

Absolute right to abortion does implies more freedom than is currently given. We have limits on it right now for reasons.

I strongly disagree with the others.

Congratulations on a poll FOX would be proud of. The only pro-choice statement in there is so radical as to be absurd.

I just told you, the options given are not sufficient to clearly reflect people's opinions. I would say that almost no one is for 8 month into the term abortions.

Sure.

"Abortion should be permitted to the fullest extent guaranteed by current U.S. constitutional doctrine."

Or if that is a little complicated for you or if you do not want to make it U.S. specific, a reasonable proxy would be:

"Abortion should be premitted without restriction until the point of viability. Additionally, abortion shall always be premitted to protect the life or health of the mother."

The whole topic is so widely debatable as to make most polls that general about it suck. You would have to have at least two dimensions here: How far into the pregnancy, and under what circumstances.

This poll may suck, but it's no more worthless than the type CNN, FOX and the rest are always running.

Hey where's the China option?

As in: Let's force abortion on people who have exceeded their child quota.

I gotta agree with everyone here, the poll is awful.

People don't want abortion for "any reason". Its outside reasons such as teenagers, extreme poverty, mistaken pregnancies, including rape incest and health problems.

I think the poll participants should be limited to women that have had children or already had an abortion.

I have no skin in this game.

My views on abortion differ from my opinion. While I think its totally disgusting and think you need to have a good reason to do it, its a choice that women should make, not mine.

Until we can actually get Ma & Pa Kettle in Bumfuck, Nebraska to talk to little Jimmy and Sally about the REALITIES of sex, love, and responsibility, unwanted pregnancies will happen. Given that, abortion must remain legal and available.

I heard that Ma and Pa Kettle have been breeding Jimmy and Sally in order to get cheap labor for the farm.

And not only that, but people WILL have sex. Teach them that its either no sex till marriage or no sex at all are just as bad as no info at all. Ma and Pa telling their kids that sex = bad wont help at all, need some serious sex talks (AND a serious sex education in the schools, one that dont get its funding pulled it it sell about abortion or homosexuality) for young people to learn how to aviod unwanted kids in the first place.

As for the poll, i must agree with the rest, terrible poll, but i DO find it interesting that over 50% ATM are for abortion considering the number of US people on the boards.

But the poll need the option "its the womans choice if she want an abortion or not, i should have no say in this".
True, the male ARE a part of making the baby, so he should probably have something to say about it, which will hopefully happen in any serious relationship. BUT its the woman who have to give birth to the baby, the woman who will (in most cases) get stuck with it when the guy dissapear and dont pay child support, the woman who have to take the risks, responsibilities and dangers of a pregnancy. The odds for the local football hero to turn out to be a great dad and support Peggy Sue after he bang her up are pretty small after all.

And that's surprising why?

I mean, I just don't see what living in the U.S. has to do with it.

I support unlimited access to abortion up to a reasonable term limit. I like the UK's 24 week limit (exceptions for serious medical scenarios). Especially as a recent study showed that <10% of babies born at/around 24 weeks survived to leave hospital and of those, 40% suffer moderate-to-severe mental and physical problems by the age of 6.
To those opposing abortion: What are your suggestions for alternatives? I've got no moral problem with this standpoint as long as it does come with any of the following thoughts:
1) "people shouldnt have sex". They do.
2) "Fuck em, they made the mistake they can live with it". Abortion is a better choice than an abused/neglected child, which is what you'll get if you condemn people to raise them against their will.
