For those playing on servers with high population / lag ...
This mostly concerns those on Whisperwind, only because it is the server that I play on and we are getting some nice ass lag...
If Blizzard would offer a chance for people to get a one time xfer to another server, would you take it and go to another server or stay where you are at and stick out the problems?

It was pain in the ass enough getting most of my friends and guild members to go to Whisperwind. I can only imagine how next to impossible it would be to get them to go somewhere else. Let everyone else leave en mass and it will work out on its own. Also, new servers means less new retards joining.

I really don't think the Whisperwind issues are being caused by high population of people playing on Whisperwind. They are being caused by a fuckton of people playing and starting characters throughout WoW. Servers across the board are being affected by the problems you're seeing right now, I'm confident they'll work the issues out.

Lightbringer was actually quite playable for most of last night, until Bliz started encouraging east coasters to jump over and choke the fucking PST servers to death, to compensate for the Euro invasion of the EST realms. Now, pretty much all servers are fucked until they find a way around their database lag issue.
In my view, they really skimped out and chose to have one single item db server to support all realms. They also fucked up in not releasing server names ahead of time, effectively promting a rush on the few PvP servers that the gankers were aware of (Central) from leaks of that information. They knew how many copies they had produced, so they should have been prepared for it. Queues are not an acceptable recourse for shitty planning, but here we are paying for a game we can't even play when the servers are up. They should have had a dedicated DB server on each and every realm or, failing that, simply allowed a maximum of 10 characters gamewide and let people log in to whatever server (for the first couple months until populations stabalized) they wanted to at login.
Too bad VU was in such a greedy frenzy to release this before Thanksgiving, because Blizzards prior system of "release it when it is done and not before" didn't exactly hurt their sales. But I bet an entire thanksgiving weekend full of pissed off players and burned out technicians and programers (who have been rewarded for their 80 hour work weeks with having to sit around signing 10k copies of WoW til 6am and no Thanksgiving off) that will probably tarnish Bliz's previous reputation for near perfection.
All that stated, I will gladly accept a nightly ass fisting from Blizzard personally adminstered by Furor himself over any SOE product ever again.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

The EQ2 servers experienced very similiar growing pains, if that makes you feel any better.

Hardly anyone's playing horde on Whisperwind, I'll stick it out. The alliance areas are a mess.
You can tell which types of items are going to lag you, looks like it's split up between quest items, tradeskills, etc.. Different item types lag at different times.Jice Virago wrote:...and chose to have one single item db server

Pure speculation here, but it would seem to me that they are attempting to track (if not outright control) quest drops and tradeskill drops/combines. They had stated at one point during CB that they were going to work towards curbing tradeskil advancement, so maybe this was their solution. Kind of dumb, if that is the case, since they could have just gone with nightly polling of those servers (to track drop rates) and pushes to multiple item db servers (to adjust them), instead of one server getting hammered everytime one of a million people decide to loot something.
I am sure one single item tracking db server looked great on paper to the budget guys before launch, but it was obvious to anyone in the last stress test that something was fucked even before release. Having a lot of smaller servers may have required more hands on maintenance, but it would have saved everyone a lot of grief.

I played for a couple of hours this morning on Whisperwind and a couple last night, had green lag all the time, even after waiting 15 min. to get in last night.
Now I haven't actually played any of my Alliance characters, only my TS so far who is a great deal of fun thus far. I'll stick it out for now, still waiting to see Aabidano or some of you other guys online.
