If You are Going to Lock Encounters...

Post by Adelrune Argenti »

Then why not lock harvest nodes as well. I am so fucking tired of idiots coming up and working on a harvest node that I am already clearly working. They come up and steal the last of the three attempts at it.

Last night, I ran into a total asshole. He was a High Elf Shaman, which should be enough to tell you about him (I mean come on, why would the High Elves have a shaman in the first place?) I am doing my thing running around Forest Ruins just gathering whatever I can find. If I see someone working something, I run on and find another. I am clearing the fish as well to make more other nodes spawn. Along comes this bear form shaman who proceeds to jump in on a rock I was mining. I send him a tell saying, "Hey, I was working that. Would you mind not jumping in on something someone is already on?"

He replies with "When I come into a zone, I own it all so get the fuck out of my zone." We exchange words several times with him telling me how happyl he is he got whatever item from the one I was working. He said something about how he was going to make some cool stuff with the "beaver" he just got. I told him to enjoy that as that will be the only beaver he probably will ever see.

So, my question is why are people so freaking inconsiderate and rude? If EQ2 wants to stop griefing, why did they leave such a huge hole open in the harvesting side. This guy freaking followed me around for 30 minutes. I basically stopped doing anything and just stood there till he got bored and ran off to another zone.

I see your point of view, but since you can only harvest one thing at a time why should you have claim to all 3. I think the guy in your example was a major asshole about it, but I've never had an experience where someone didn't mind sharing with me or I minded sharing with them. If they locked the harvest nodes I would not complain, but as it is I don't see why anyone should freak out about someone taking one of the 3 things available.

In all honesty, I jump on whatever felled tree I can find, regardless if its being forested by someone else. Trees are so damn rare I pounce at any chance to up my foresting skill. I do offer the wood if someone was there before me. I just want my skill raised enough so I can cut wood in Antonica.

I am harvesting one thing; a log, a rock, a badger etc. You get three tries out of it. Think of it as 3 swings of a sword at a mob. This is my encounter. I got here first. Why shouldn't I get it all to myself? This is about being considerate. I run right by a harvest node if I see someone already there. They got there first and beat me. I can accept it. What I don't accept is someone who lives their life as an inconsiderate asshole.

And Sylvos, I haven't found out how to properly train in this game yet. In EQ, I had you to learn from. Perhaps you need to come over to Perma and teach me.

It's not that you get three tries, there are three things and each attempt is a chance to sucessfully harvest something. If you suceed you get stuff, if you don't you get nothing. Then you can try again *if* there is anything left. I see each attempt as a separate encounter.

Easy, you go all the way to the encounter and get a ton of mobs then you break encounter then run a circle and sprint away.
You make the circle large enough to where the mob paths back to them.
Its's not a fast death like I used to rain down upon everyone but its a satisfying one to say the least^^.

training is the ONLY way to take care of idiots. no point in even sending them tells, unless it is to distract them while hell's holy fury gains ground upon them.

I think I need to learn training from the true masters, rangers. As a wizard, I just never lived long enough to effectively train in EQ. However, I would have loved to see this guy trained over and over.

The only good thing that came out of Luclin was the AA ability for rogues to build unholy trains and then pop their hide/deagro skill to absolutely destroy the intended victim of the train of death. Coupled with the ability to hide/sneak while moving, they became the ultimate weapon of wipeouts.

I never thought about mining etc. I just join whomever is whacking the rock. One guy called me a jerk and I realized that he thought the rock was proprietary.

So I now leave them alone if people are harvesting.

PS, you want wood? Go to OAkmyst .. its lousy with it

They don't lock though.... so they aren't all yours.

If ham and cheese sandwiches spawned on the streets of NY, are both halves yours? are you going to call the homeless guy a jerk?

Work within the rules of the system and realize you're the jerk.

I agree with Adel...just because it is three separate attempts and not locked...it is still common courtesy to leave it to the person that is on it. But I guess it comes natural to some people to be assholes thanks to the anonymity that the internet affords

LoL You are something else, sitting there calling me an asshole for using a naturally limited resource built into the game to be able to be mined by more than one person, because you are too greedy to share and too lazy to want to run around and look for more *just as you are telling me to do* /boggle

You'd be wrong, I'm not an asshole, I'm very polite and I share my resources gladly, when that one is gone both of us go running off to try and find more. If there isn't anyone else there I consider it a boon and hack away, if so I share, the way I learned to as a toddler.

All I ask is that people who are gathering resources also clear the fish in the ponds. :)

There are so many fish nodes everywhere you go. Antonica is filled with them.

There are two types of fish nodes though... the more common is the 'shoal of fish' type school of little fish, which doesn't give fish but no-value components instead. I'll fish any real fish spawn ('hover of freshwater trout',etc) but i'll leave clearing the other ones to you resource fiends.

Shrug, it never occurred to me to be bothered when someone else joined me harvesting a node. And likewise, it would have surprised me to find someone annoyed were I to do the same -- until this thread, that is.

I guess the general rules of PNP *panic* will develop and be agreed upon as the game matures. I suppose I don't care either way, but I will probably ignore anyone who gets upset at sharing a node until that time.
