A friend's quote about the K-Mart/Sears merger

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

A friend's quote about the K-Mart/Sears merger

Post by Revs »

"You know, this K-Mart/Sears thing is upsetting. Sears tool department is sacred manly territory. I don't want to see manly Craftsman tools sold in trailer-trash K-Mart. This is not acceptable." :vv_soapbox:

That's so pathetic. Sears is such a shit hole it's not even funny. I worked there for 3 years a while back, and saw them do so many desparate things to stay in business it made me want to vomit:
1- selling off all their credit owed to them,
2- buying lands end (as if they didn't already have enough clothing nobody under the age of 50 would wear.)
3- nutrition centers in the store, are you fucking kidding me ? of course these flopped because of the gnc or it's equivalent which is nearby in most cases.
4- making up rules just to make rules and have reasons to fire employees they can't afford to have, and understaffing the hell out of their stores in the process.

That being said, I don't even need to comment on Kmart.. What a joke. Now everyone watch the fireworks as SearsMart (tm) goes out of business with a bang.

The thing that ticks me off the most?
The BAGS knew about it before we did.

You know the sears logo. Big, blue, neonish letters that say SEARS, and the K-Mart logo with the little red swish under it? The siwsh appeared on our bags last weekend. No one knew why, or what was going on. Thought it was a holiday thing... until the merger happened.

Dude it was a done deal six weeks ago or longer.

When MetraHealth merged with United HealthCare, rumors were flying about. The CEO of MetraHealth went on the TV News in Hartford, and angrily (yes he was visibly angry) not only denied the rumors but had very nasty things to say about the source of the rumours -- a senior reported for the Wall Street Journal who had been covering the insurance market for over 30 years. Needless to say when the deal happened exactly the way the WSJ reported it would, the CEO completely lost all credibility in the Hartford area and moved away a short time later.

More than six weeks ago. Much more.
Going back a number of years when I finally made the switch from actuary to budget analyst for Beneficial, the budget dept. was to provide upper management with due diligence materials for 6 months before the market story broke that "we are concidering outside investment alternatives". Stock shot like a fucking rocket at that point and a second time when we announced about four months later our major competitor, Household International was going to aquire us. Much like the Sears/K-mart deal, storefronts would only close in specific regions.
I made over $80k one week in June of '98 cashing in my stock options  .
