Guilty as OJ.
Will probably get off just as easily.

Agreed. He was 'fishing' in the same area their bodies were found. I haven't been following it that closely, but that's pretty damning.

are we guessing the verdict, or our opinion on how we would judge him?

I think its disgusting that the american public has such intirest in these cases. Hundreds of people are murdered every month for one reason or another and most of the time we can't even produce a case much less a suspect, mainly for lack of giving a shit. not to mention thousands of people being killed and raped in central africa by warlord factions everyday...because africa isnt that important.
Yet when some attractive pregant chick gets murdered the whole godamned country has to have an opinion on her husband (who they dont even know personally) and if he is or isnt a murderer

I can't guess the verdict, since my guess is not listed. There is no such verdict as "innocent." Were "not guilty" listed, I'd pick that. ;)

we discussed this point in a meeting the other day. why this case caught the media attention.

conclusions were:

1. she was pregnant
2. she disappeared on Christmas Eve last year. Christmas is an extremely "slow" news time, so stories that are typically 'local' in scope can get picked up by more media outlets because they simply don't have anything to put in their broadcasts - so in that regard it has more chance to get picked up.
3. Laci's family made excellent use of the media attention to keep her name in the news, etc
4. the more the details of the case came out (his affair etc.), it became like a snowball going down the mountain.

i never really followed it, but i think those are some of the factors. and people like drama - and this case had those elements.

He was found guilty of 1st degree on wife, 2nd degree for son and charged with special circumstances.

I followed this case pretty closely over the last couple months, reading the evidence and testimonies off the Court TV website. I was suprised he was found guilty considering there was no direct evidence (it was all circumstantial) and they never determined cause or location of death. I personally think he did it, but I can't say that as a juror I could find him guilty from what I read.

Scott Peterson, killed his wife and their unborn child she was carrying. The morbid fascination about the case in the US is in the details... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6385208/
