EQ2, WoW, or neither

Post by Avestan »

Don't really want to do a poll because I want to know opinions. I was planning on playing WoW after beta (it is a very fun game), but I have been reading more and more positive things about EQ2 and now I am not sure.

Are people planning on trying either or both of these? I know this has been asked a million times on larger boards, but I am curious about this community.

Yesterday I was leaning WoW and today I am leaning EQ2. . .decisions. No way I have time to play one seriously, so there is zero chance I try both.

I think it's been asked a million times here, too.

No EQ2 or WOW for me.

I'm sold on WoW but will definatly be trying EQ2 if Sony makes a 7 or 14 day free trial.

I've been playing WoW for over a year and it's only been getting better. With BattleGrounds, the PvP system and the raid system that Blizz detailed in their designers, they've got my money.

EQ2 most likely. WoW didn't really do it for me.

WoW

In all honesty I don't think I will ever play another $OE game again. The company has time and time again proven that they only care about the money rather than the customer. I'll support this claim with some examples, listed here chronologically:

EQ
1) Got rid of GMs and began a GM collective to overlook all servers.
2) Introduced a new server which cost almost 4 times as regular service for providing the very same customer service that should have been standard on regular servers.
3) Allowed people to change the name of their characters for $$. This is by far the most scandalous thing they have ever done.
4) Time sinks > content attitude towards expansions.

SWG
5) Released way too early which caused exploitation of bugs, which in turn destroyed the economy.

They now allow for any character to become a jedi, which I think not only cheapens the game but belittles the entire genre. Just sickening. I quit playing SWG a few weeks after release, and that was when I vowed not to ever play another SOE game again. While this reason has nothing to do with their greed, it disturbs me enough to completely boycott their company.

and now EQ2

6) Again they are releasing the game before it's ready. I assume they are doing this to beat WoW to the punch, meanwhile fucking their customers with an unfinished and inferior product.
I tell it like a true mackadelic.

I'm leaning towards EQ2 even though I have yet to play it. I want a game where it takes time to level up, WoW just seems too easy at this point.

I am holding out for Vanguard. I really don't want to make any type of commitment to either WoW or EQ2 because I know for a fact that I will be going to Vanguard. This means it will be a long while before I play but I have other things to do in the mean time.

I don't see how someone can drop $50 on a game just to play the free trial for 7-14 days only to quit and go back to the other game of choice. I can't afford to play more than one game.

I know I will most likely go to Vanguard as well, but some friends will play EQ2 casually so will most likely join them. Vanguard is still quite a bit away.

I played WoW stress test and I loved it. I have absolutely no interest in playing EQ2 and Vanguard sounds interesting, but Ive heard it is gonna be geared towards hardcore MMO people and I don't have time to be one of those.

I don't think I'll be playing MMORPG right now but if I decide to, I'll play EQ2 over WoW if those are the only choices.

I can't seem to even find the time to log onto the EQ2 beta. I've got a huge tech geek backlog of X-Box, PS2, Movies, Pr0n, other PC games, books, and other activities even geekier, that you wouldn't believe. Anyone bored in this world and that has access to the internet isn't trying very hard.

I cancelled my EQ account yesterday for the first time in 5+ years...not that I've played really in about 8 months.

I like the online community in MMORPGs so I'll be back when a game comes out that has a good mix of gameplay and social activities.

Godamn brother and cousins are forcing me, against my will to play EQ2, so it looks like i have no choice, they even pre ordered me a copy :-x
so il be playing that casually, il try to avoid the entire guild thing altogeather

I know im going to go iksar, but does anyone know in which direction i should go to for the most powerful offensive melee type? I dont know if to go for berserker or one of the rogue/assassin types to inflict more melee dmg, any suggestions?

Played both and my decision is to go with WoW. Some reasons:

* SOE has a bad history with releasing unfinished games and they are keeping up with that expectation by releasing EQ2 so soon. From what I hear and have seen Blizzard has a far better track record. Blizzard customer service seems to be more genuine.

* EQ2 scenery isn't as lush and interesting. The cities are bland to the Nth degree and so big that it takes forever to explore them adequately. When I say big, I mean too much space, not that there are lots of things filling that space.

* I like the trade skill system in WoW better: involved but not maddingly time consuming. If you like to casually enjoy a tradeskill or two, EQ2 is not for you.

* I dislike the EQ2 class tree system. If I know I want to play a rogue, I want to play a rogue now. Some people like strating off as some generic class and building up to their final class, but I don't.

* Fishing is retarded in EQ2. :)

neither.

I have no intention of ever giving SoE another dollar of my money.

And I don't have time to play WoW, or any mmorpg for that matter.

Would have said EQ2 and no WoW up to about a week ago, but I ran into an old roommate that I played DAoC with and decided I need PvP. So...WoW stress test now, and will see how it goes in PvP. Otherwise, EQ2 pre-ordered.

I will never play another SOE game again. Why you ask?

1. EQ - Good game, had a great time. Obviously it has it's issues, but after 4-5 years, I got tired of it, and it was time to quit.

2. Planetside - Was in beta. Had a blast! Then it was released, and SOE fucked it up so bad, the idea of playing it makes me physically sick.

3. SWG - Was in beta. Wasn't really fun, kind of hated it. Friends convinced me to play it. Wasn't really fun kind of hated it. The game got progressively stupider, and achieved all time stupidity when I realized that the game was tailored to RPers and SW fanbois. Horrible, horrible experience.

So no. No EQ2 for me. Maybe if I'd gone from EQ to EQ2, I'd have a different opinion, but after playing SWG... never again.

WoW on the other hand is a blast, and I'm preordering today. :)

I've had the WoW Collector's Edition pre-ordered since it became available on EBWorld.

I've dabbled with EQ2 and WoW, and neither are good enough to draw me away from the fun I'm having with EQ1. The effect that EQ2 and WoW seem to already be having on EQ populations is a bit alarming, though. It seems like the majority of raiding guilds are struggling with numbers as those chasing the greener grass begin to move on. Lots of realigning on the way, I expect :(

After having played the WoW stress test for the weekend I think I'll probably play that after release. It kept my attention and almost made me not work on my school projects.

Neither I honestly have no plans of ever playing another MMORPG at the moment. I had a blast playing EQ for 5 years but after not playing for awhile its scary how much time it consumed. Maybe if one comes out that holds my attention I may play it but so far none have.
