USA ignoring basic human rights again

Post by Hesten »

And here are todays news from Human Rights Watch. Seems like the US have started using the same tactics as Latin American military dictatorships used once.

You mean the dictators the CIA was funding all along?

I'm going to say I'm not at all surprised.
I'd be less surprised if some of these people started to turn up at egyptian internment camps or the like - you know, places that don't have to worry about such things as laws against torture.

It also doesn't surrpise me that we're not telling people where we're keeping our top terrorism suspects. A secret isn't a secret unless you're dead.

I prefer to assume that the detainees are being treated respectfully and being interrogated using approved methodology. I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon without some kind of real proof other than:
There are also reports that some detainees have lied under duress to please their captor
Reports from who? This piece doesn't even say who did the reporting ( unidentified official etc...). To me this is their way of trying to put pressure on people to get access to the detainees. All they have to do is demand the access, they don't need to make what appear to be unsubstantiated claims to get the access.

If it is proven that the detainees are being mistreated then slam dunk the people who are doing/authorizing the mistreating.

I'll wait for real proof before making any judgements, thank you very much.

If you're a detaine..
In a war..
Good odds that yes, you WILL lie to your captors..

Are people idiots to the point that that was news?

eh if they are being tortured and then lie to please.. that is quite a different story than just telling a lie. There really is no excuse for mistreating prisoners.
