Those pesky christian priest are at it again
Well, when Atokal et al can drag out various news and use it to clam that a special group are bad, so can i.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/08 ... index.html
Heres some highlights:
Vatican investigator has ordered the immediate shutdown of an Austrian seminary embroiled in a child pornography scandal, saying he found evidence of homosexual relations there
The scandal is only the latest to hit the Catholic Church, which has been sued for millions of dollars in Europe and America in recent years over priests sexually abusing minors.
Well, seems like christian priests are child molesters, i think we should make being a priest illegal and preferably burn them at the stake while were at it.
Oh, and those people that listen to them might be influenced by them too, we have to make it illegal to be a christian. Actually, most christians are while people, so we should shoot all while people on sight.
/sarcasm off.

I was about to comment on how this showed the Church doing right for once. Glad I clicked on teh link to the article first.
There is not enough information there. But one huge thing stuck out as being both telling, sad and funny, about the Church and its investigation.
According to the article, there were porno pictures downloaded by seminary students (e.g. future priests). I assume, given the caption of the article, that at least some of those pictures were child porn. Waht really bothered the investigating Bishop, however, was not apparently the porn in general, nor the child porn, but the pictures of the seminary students kissing and fondeling each other!
Onward Christian Soldiers indeed!

LOL. Typical Christianity at work. 40k porno photos in the seminary, including apparently some child porn, and the good Bishop is mostly worried about his future Priests smoking some pole."It was painful for me to discover, that active homophile relations had developed," Bishop Klaus Kueng said in a statement Thursday after his investigation of the St. Poelten seminary, where about 40,000 photos and numerous videos had been discovered.
Onward Christian Soldiers indeed!
The Catholic church is so fubared and Hypocritical that it knows no bounds. Its sexist, very materialistic, and it just opens itself for myriads of problems.
Let godamn priests get married, let women have the same rights as men, dont discriminate against gays etc etc
They say priest must be "fully commited" to (god) there careers, but i can think of, at the top of my head a shitload more positions that require more time/effort then being a mideval priest in cerimonal robes that pretends to cast voodoo-like spells

Cute. But, your attempt at a point is misguided. Are these priests doing this in the name of their religion? Before you hurt yourself....no they aren't.Hesten wrote:Well, when Atokal et al can drag out various news and use it to clam that a special group are bad, so can i.

The problem isn't Catholicism or what have you. It is that more often than not the only people willing to take an oath of celebacy for life are weird, outcasts, gay, pedophiles, etc. It's a noble concept indeed, but as we have seen it just doesn't work. They need to allow priests to marry or something. It is getting to a point where only a terrible parent would leave a child alone with a priest. And that is a very sad thing.

It is interesting, how the secular world holds christians to standards not held to themselves.
I remember back when my friends caught me illegally copying software. My atheist mathematician friend gave me more of an egging than my christian friend.
If you profess a higher standard, others will gladly hold you to it.
There is some kind of pleasure derived in seeing the failure of another.

I think to some degree you're right, Adex, though I think you're a little off-base on why.Adex_Xeda wrote:It is interesting, how the secular world holds christians to standards not held to themselves.

That's not a good impluse to nurture.
You are the sort of religious man who actually *is* in tune with his personal and religious convictions and acts accordingly (which is a great thing), but even you have to admit that this places you in something of a minority.
I think this sort of "gotcha" attitude people have regarding Christians comes from the fact that just about everybody has known their share of people who are very, *very* vocal about being Christian, but in their actions are about as far from it as is possible to get.
Even as far back as grade school, there were people who viewed religion as a team to be on rather than a personal set of spiritual beliefs. These were the kids wearing the "I love Jesus" shirts and attending the young life meetings during the week, yet getting high, driving drunk, date raping and picking fights with minorities on the weekend. They always seemed to get away with it, too. That's where I think a lot of this comes from, as well as a lot of people's negative attitude towards the church - from their experience with shallow, insincere religious types.
You can't really blame them, you can only show them different by your actions.

I love seeing stuff like this in the news, it just breaks down the whole "holy church" thing which has been gradually crumbling since the Renaissance.
First we realized that the earth was not the center of the universe.
Then darwinism was founded and it was found that humans evolved from apes and were not created in God's own image.
and skipping ahead a lot of stuff to now where God's own messengers the priests cannot be trusted with children and are in some cases gay, another sin in the eyes of the church.
The ideals of the church of being good and moral. Preaching non-violence, faithfullness to one's friends and family, its all good. But just about everything else aside from the morals is all bullshit.
Religion is the largest producer and distributer of bullshit. Think of this from a business point of view -- Convince people that a man in the sky is all knowing and all powerful. Tell them that that if you don't follow these 10 rules, you go ot a bad place with burning and fire. But he loves you... And he needs money, lots of money, untaxed money, which you volentarily give up. Sounds like a sweet deal huh?
And everyone has God on their side too! God is on America's side, Iraqi rebel's side, hell, Uraguay's side too! Sounds like a true flip flopper to me.
Religion is just a big club that every wants to be in because they can meet people, and associate with others. They want to be on the same team. I'm sure when religion was first coming out to answer all the questions that man's mind presented, they huddled in the corner discussing. Other people curiously came over and joined, and so it started. People were born into it and thats probably how relgion really started.

Christians are people too, like any other person on this planet they are going to make mistakes and they are going to fail at some of their good intentions.
What IS sad is what Arundel posted about Adex... I think she is right on target. Adex is the kind of guy that I would consider a good Christian, he thinks and acts in a way which show that when others judge, condem or hurt others it bothers him... AS IT SHOULD
Too many Christians have been grouped in, by often their own choice I might add, with the judgemental freaks that fell off the right side of the political spectrum... They promote intolerance and sometimes even hate while trying "win" the souls of others... they missed the whole point.
Personally I can't see how any person can come to the conclusion that Christianity fits into a rightest political view. Jesus gave few commandments. The first being to love God. The second being to love your neighbor... The first has nothing to do with the Government, this is covered in Romans if anyone wants to look it up, and the second, a very socialistic statement is the opposite of what the republicans believe politically...
There are some evil bastage child molestors out there, some from every race, religion and sexual orientation. Being part of any of those groups dosen't necessitate or exclude the possiblity of inclusion.

Not at all, there's a huge difference between the Sunday christian, and the mortal christian. It's not a matter of of taking pleasure in failure, it's a matter of not having tolerance for fucking hypocrites that pretend to be holier than thou. eg, http://www.chaser.com.au/show_story.asp?ID=964&ED=89Adex_Xeda wrote:It is interesting, how the secular world holds christians to standards not held to themselves.
