See? Do you see now?
THIS is why you don't let Ashcroft play games. You looks at the BFG and goes, damn, we can do better than that...

Ok, bad joke reference to Doom 3 and Ashcroft / Rumsfield. =p
Was the first thing that came to mind.

Imagine what RumCroft would do with a BFG..

i know Cart that you probably agree with Limbaugh's take on this situation "make a parking lot out of Najaf", but of all the possible scenarios that could happen - none. and i mean NONE would be worse for the United States.

i trust the military leadership to have a damn clever solution to this seeming impasse - because if we don't we are fucked. and i mean F-U-C-K-E-D fucked.

Seems kind of strange as well after the al-Sadr reports of supporting the peace offer he was given.

Well it may not be that bad. At least from what I read yesterday, if troops move in it will be Iraqi troops and not US.

Although maybe to people in the Middle East it amounts to the same thing.

It's no more different than two armies continuing to blast the hell out of each other while peace talks are underway. Before the cease fire is signed, you want to do as much damage as humanly possible - while not doing something so major that it would void the peace talks (ie: nuke) - to the opposing infastructure so that if the cease fire stops and open combat begins again, it will take your opponent more time to be able to return to 100% combat efficency.

Weather you accomplish that by killing a few dozen men, blowing up an ammo depot, or making a section of their territory incapable of sustaining life for the next hundred years, well..

while I agree with you it would be a bad thing, If the US lets him get away with hiding in a mosque what will keep other outlaws from hiding there again and again.

You're missing the point entirely.

They want the US to bomb the shit out of the mosque.
Bombing a major temple/mosque will turn many fence sitting muslims into gun toting, american hating recruits.

There is the answer right there. Kind of makes you wonder how dedicated these clowns are to their religion when the treat there worshipping centers with such recklessness.

Hint for you Midnyte: They are not. They don't follow much of the real Muslim faith at all. I know that is hard for you to understand since you it means you can't hate all Muslims anymore, but it's true.

And yes, they want you to bomb the mosque.

i think they don't want the shrine bombed.

but they are just smart, they hide in a safe place. that is a pretty basic military tactics to me.

lets see, where WONT we get bombed?

the mosque.

ok lets hang out there, cause getting bombed would hurt.

Well, they know the US probably won't bomb them there for fear of creating more terrorists.

On the other hand.

If they do goad the US into bombing the mosque, they will have died a martyr.

Either way, it's a win for them.

Of course we could just tear gas them out and shoot them in the street....but that would be way too easy. My suggestion would be to play a non-ending stream of Yoko Ono at extremely high decibel levels until they give up or die. It probably violates the Geneva Convention though.

It's a shame we can't use neutron bombs. Kill the people, leave the mosque!

Possibility of the US bombing the mosque is about 0.

If we do the Neutron Dance won't it have pretty much the same effect?

Holy ground, Highlander!

Listening to one of the lads in the Iraqi interim government last night.... the Iraqis are going to go and get him out of the mosque, the Americans will wait outside.

Nicely avoids the political tragedy I think...

Wont matter to the really radical ones which this will impact anyway. To them, the Iraqis are in American pockets anyway (which most likely is true as well heh).
