Leo Mazzone: Hall of Fame?
Second lowest ERA as a staff in baseball. I bet most of you could not name 3 starting pitchers without looking them up. Most of them were marginal pitchers with other clubs. I am just amazed at what he does with castoffs.

This year, I'm most impressed with what he's been able to do with Wright. He's been an enigma throughout his career, and Mazzone has him pitching like an all-star.
Everyone expected this staff to be a steaming pile after the recent losses of Maddux, Glavine and Millwood. Instead, they've pitched there way to the top of a pretty tough division.

Mike Hampton
Russ Ortiz
Horacio Ramirez (injured)
John Thomson
Hampton this year: 6-8, 4.92
Hampton in 1999: 22-4, 2.90
Hampton in 2000: 15-10, 3.14
Ortiz this year: 12-6, 3.19
Ortiz in 2001: 17-9, 3.29
Of course, to be fair:
Hampton in 2002, with the Rockies: 7-15, 6.15
Hampton in 2003, with the Braves: 14-8, 3.84
And even with his current shit year, it's an improvement on his Colorado performance, even if some of that is attributable to Coors Field.
But, my hatred for the Braves aside: Yes, he should make the Hall.

*Update*
#1 in baseball in ERA. Jaret Wright #9 in the NL in ERA. And to think that anyone could have signed him for next to nothing when pitching rich San Diego dropped him last year.

I am opened minded to most sports, and can respect people participation and likeing they take to different ones, and can watch a few games every once in a whileKilmoll the Sexy wrote:Second lowest ERA as a staff in baseball.
