DAMON PLAYS CYCLE LEGEND
Matt Damon is getting himself in shape to play cycling superman Lance Armstrong in an upcoming biopic.
Matt's latest film, The Bourne Supremacy, rocketed to the top of the US box office on Sunday.
He is now in negotiations to play the Tour de France champion in producer Frank Marshall's new project.
The film is set for release in 2006, and Damon admitted he needed to get in shape.
He said of the fitness required for the new film: "That would be a whole new level."
Armstrong is most famous for recovering from testicular cancer and subsequently winning the Tour de France six consecutive times.
His victories between 1999 and 2004 give him more wins than any other cyclist to date.
Armstrong has been subject to allegations that he took performance-enhancing drugs.
But he has never failed a test for banned drugs, and denies that he used them at any time.

It's pretty obvious that I like Lance. I'd also say that Matt Damon is easily one of the best actors of this era... but I have to really question the need for a movie about Lance Armstrong at this point in time. I mean, if it raises awareness for cycling or for cancer survivorship then certainly it will be a good thing, but I'm not sure this movie needs to be made now. Five years from now, maybe... but there's already pretty much a media overload for Lance Armstrong stuff at the moment... I dunno, this just seems silly to me.
On the subject of Damon and getting in shape for the role... He'd actually have to get out of shape in a way. He's far too big in his upper body to play Lance. One of the key facts about Lance is that prior to Cancer, he was a lot more stocky etc. The chemotherapy made most of his muscle atrophy, so when he came back, he was able to rebuild/reshape his body. As such, his upper body is far more lean which reduces his overall weight, and increases his power to weight ratio (critical when climbing those brutal mountain passes). That said, Damon's going to need to do quite a bit of cardio.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
