Militant fundies are teh smart

Post by Niffoni »

Just so we don't forget that not all the stupid people live in the West...

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040721/D83V82HO0.html
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A militant group said Wednesday it had taken two Kenyans, three Indians and an Egyptian hostage and would behead them if their countries did not announce their readiness to withdraw their troops from Iraq immediately.

None of those countries are part of the 160,000-member U.S.-led coalition force in the country.
Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. - Douglas Adams

I saw that, but after this news bit I think they changed their demands to "have your company leave our lands"

Blame the Philippines. There's a reason you don't give into terrorist demands.

"leave our lands" just made me think of "You have destroyed your own lands, you’ll not ruin mine!” for some reason.

The Philippines gave into terrorist demands when they agreed to join the Coalition of the Willing.

...one of the weakest posts I've seen in awhile.

The reason you don't give into terrorists is it encourages them to keep doing it as witnessed on this thread.

I'll break it down into kiddie speak for you. Your mother is kidnapped by terrorists and they ask for $1 canadian for her release. You give it to them. Sweet! Your father is kidnapped next because the system works! You give another $1. Next, you are kidnapped but your parents have no $1 for you so you're killed.

Don't give in to terrorists. Giving into demands of individuals that hold innocent people hostage may seem like the easy way to save a life but in reality, it only causes more to die.

Twist away.

Hrmm, prior to the Phillipines agreeing to withdraw a few days early to save a hostage's life, did you see the kidnappings slowing down at all?

Prior to invading Iraq how many hostages were taken and paraded around on TV before being beheaded?

Now, tell me again who is "encouraging the terrorists"?

Giving in to the demands of cowards is an act of cowardice exceeding the motivating act.

For those needing a primer in basic communication....

The motivating act is the kidnapping and demand, the only thing in the process displaying more cowardice than that, is giving in to the kidnappers.

Those who kidnap random civilians and threaten to execute them are decidedly cowards, not freedom fighters.

What's worse, withdrawing from a war to save your people's lives or joining a war in the first place because you're afraid that if you don't, the agressor might impose trade sanctions and cost your country billions

It is not as if muslim fundamentalists only began kidnappings and murders after we invaded Iraq. This has been going on in the Phillipines for years. There are muslims trying to take over the southern islands who have been kidnapping westerners and trying to get concessions from the government. I can't recall the name of an American they executed, but later freed his wife, some TV movie was made about it later.

How about all the kidnappings in Beirut in the 80's or the American Embassy hostages in Iran? Just because the most recent ones are getting attention now does not make it a new method.

I was surprised by the Phillipines giving in, considering thier fight in thier own country against Al Queda backed extremists, capitulating on this one surely will not help them in the future.
