UI Changes
What do you think of the new VV user interface changes? Specifically, the cell color changes on mouseover, the ability to click anywhere on the cell as opposed to the tiny little text links, and the thread preview popup?
Depending on the outcome of the vote, I may or may not make some changes.
Feel free to post suggestions in this thread, I'll either implement them and take credit for them or ignore them entirely.

What if, hypothetically, I had a friend, yeah, who still huffs a lot of gasoline? And model glue. And gold spray paint. How should they vote?

Is there any chance that the detractors for these new features could explain why they don't like them? I'm just curious. I'm pretty much indifferent to them, and as such it surprises me that people have an opinion on them at all, but whatever blows your hair back.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I'm particularly curious about the highlighting of the cell you are currently over. The mouseover shade is not that far off from the mouseout shade, and it's a color that is used in the adjacent column... I don't understand why it's off-putting.noel wrote:Is there any chance that the detractors for these new features could explain why they don't like them? I'm just curious. Its all good besides the actual blue color sceme, i liked the red one better as it came off to be a little more unique
On that topic the blue in general is really dull, any other color..shit maybe a yellow or orange color sceme would spice up the board!
no reason to bitch though

I don't like the mouseover because sometimes VV won't be my active window, and I'll click somewhere in the window to activate it, and it'll take me to a forum or a post I didn't wat to go to. Like the NWS forum while I'm at work.

Ah yes, that's one of the main reasons I click on a window...to activate the window for the scroll wheel but not launch the URL.Boogahz wrote:![]()
I also click in other areas of the screen to activate or scroll the window at times. Clicking on links I have been to when things move slow enough on the site for me at work just slows down my VV experience
Wheel scrollers need click space!
Nothing really bothers me though..except pure white text on a dark background! Light blue text on a black background is much easier on the eyes...but that's another board! : )
in all honesty...it's pretty pointless...unless you are someone who can't remember the subject of a thread by the title. Most threads here don't stay on topic of the first post, or if they do...they're quickly beyond it. So seeing a preview of the first post, on a week old thread is pretty much pointless.Stragi wrote:how can you not like topic preview?

Yeah thats the only prob I have with the mouseovers, when I am clicking to use mouse scroll I always end up going into some thread I didn't want to click.Winnow wrote:Ah yes, that's one of the main reasons I click on a window...to activate the window for the scroll wheel but not launch the URL.Boogahz wrote:![]()

on topic or not, i don't read a thread if the first post is not something i don't care about.Truant wrote:in all honesty...it's pretty pointless...unless you are someone who can't remember the subject of a thread by the title. Actually, it annoys me. Not being able to click-scroll is annoying as hell, and often it seems like you'll click on a topic or thread, but instead you'll be sent to the forum index.
If the thread preview could be set to mouse-over on the text link itself, it'd be fine. As it is now, it's too much. Sorry, but you suck, Sylvus :/

You can still click-scroll, just click somewhere other than the cell that holds topic titles, right-click, or hit shift when you click.

And maybe you could truncate the autopreview at 50 character instead of 100.

Alright you bastards, I changed it so that you clowns can click on the window without worrying about it taking you to the thread. Hopefully that will quell the gnashing of the teefs.
HOWEVER, if you double click the cell it'll take you inside the thread. Or you can click on the text link same as always.

Nice work sylvus!
Edit: I was really hoping VV could get something like this on all of it's pages:
