I guess maybe I just remember the SNL skits.. I think it's funny I don't see it as an insult to anyone. Except the wimpy girlie men he was talking about! I guess I just don't see the homophobe thing happening here.Schwarzenegger Calls Democratic Lawmakers 'Girlie Men'
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said during a rally Saturday that Democrats were delaying the state’s budget by catering to special interests, and refered to lawmakers as "girlie men" if they refused to admit it. He also said Californians should vote out lawmakers who stand in the way of passing the budget.
"If they don't have the guts to come up here in front of you and say, 'I don't want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests, the unions, the trial lawyers' if they don't have the guts, I call them girlie men," Schwarzenegger said to a crowd at a mall food court in Ontario, Calif.
Democrats quickly called Schwarzenegger's remarks insulting to women and gays and distracted from budget negotiations.
Sen. Sheila Kuehl, a Santa Monica Democrat, and a lesbian, characterized the governor’s comments as "blatant homophobia."
"It uses an image that is associated with gay men in an insulting way, and it was supposed to be an insult. That's very troubling that he would use such a homophobic way of trying to put down legislative leadership," said Kuehl, one of five members of the Legislature's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus.
"It's ironic that the governor would try to find a metaphor for weakness when his real problem is that we're being too strong," she added.
"To disparage a group of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens is just wrong," said Assemblyman Mark Leno, a San Francisco Democrat who is chairman of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Caucus.
On Sunday, a spokesperson for Schwarzenegger said the governor would not apologize for calling lawmakers "girlie men."
The governor said in his criticism of Democrats that they were working for unions and trial lawyers because of their support for two labor bills. One law prohibits schools from contracting services with private companies and the other gives workers authority to sue their employers to enforce labor laws. Democrats and the governor also disagree on local financing issues.
Democrats say they back the bills because they help workers. Kuehl said Schwarzenegger, not Democrats, was giving in to special interest groups.
"He's the one caving in to the tort reform special interests," she said.

Personally I think it rocks! lol!
All these whiners are like "it's sexist or homophopic" I know some pretty big guys who are gay and definitely not girlie men. I think what he said fits, sure it's childish name calling but a least it's not a lie like 90% of the other politicians.

PS - Even this liberal would vote for Arnold if he could run for President. If only because of what Winnow stated above...

Or maybe he should have presented an argument. Like why their support for those labor laws was wrong etc. Name calling is pretty pathetic, great retoric for the simple minded tho.Adex_Xeda wrote:He should of just called them cowards.
The homosexual thing is weak, grasping for straws there.

ya'll are pussified to the core if all you see and start talking about is the fact he used something along the lines of "girly men"
phrase - you hit like a girl - is that sexist ? i dont think so, it means hitting so as to not hurting the target. is it demeaning to girls ?? for the love of god . GROW UP and get of the damn PR stool of idiocy. grow some skin for fuck sake.
if this continues, any degrading remark will be viewed as un-PR.
then vv will get new rules. and we'll have to abide by those pr rules
flames will be like this then
"you are not good"
"incorrect , i am correct and good, you are on the other hand are not good"
etc etc

I don't think this is offensive, it's a bit childish but what can you expect from the Governator? It's even funny with the SNL skit in mind. Not nearly as disgusting as if...say...the Vice President told a Senator to "go fuck [him]self" on the Senate floor.
He's probably just pissed that we didn't vote to allow him to sneak budget changes through on a simple majority instead of two-thirds majority.
Though, I'd certainly prefer he just go back to being invisible.

War pickles men in a brine of disgust and dread.
But seriously, does anyone really think he was being anti gay? I can't see it as him being anything other than a body builder who did a shitload of steriods and starred in a bunch of action flicks, I cannot see the gay angle at all. Of course being straight I may not have the level of cultural sensitivity to the issue that I could but the first thing I thought of was the SNL stuff also.

Honestly, I think its funny but it may even be somewhat politically astute: he grabbed headlines all over North America (and I would guess other parts of the world as well?) because used an old "Hanz and Franz" phrase, but if you read the rest you see "the Legislature's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus" reacting to his rant that "special interest groups" are hijacking the state government. Doesn't the fact that such a caucus (and especially inside the government, not just as a lobby group!)exists make his point?

Don't really care what he says as long as hes not just tossing insults. I am a big fan of free speech and public profanity, myself, so I could really care less. To me this is all just petty cock fencing in response to GOP people making a big stink over Kerry saying "fuck" a while back, and its stupid. The only profanity thats annoyed me lately was Cheney telling someone to go "Fuck Himself" after making such a big stink about the Kerry FBomb, and doing it on the senate floor. Personally, I would prefer a politician who says it like it is, instead of this stupid PC speach to cater to fundies and overly sensitive liberal pussies alike.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
