Newspappers ?

Post by Xorian »

As i like reading in english ( keep my vocabulray & grammar at a fair level) i decided to pick up an american newspapper twice a week.

But even far from USA, there is a lot of choice in the shop near my place, so i was wondering if you american guys could give me some informations about the differents US newspapper.

By infos i mean...which one is more conservative, which one could be a more neutral one, which one fully support the white-house...etc...

In fact im looking for the one who would give me the more fair view of the USA.

Thanks in advance !

The National Inquirer is the leading source of unbiased and factual news in the US. It's even more renowned in journalistic circles than the NY Times!

Indeed, they are equal opportunity maker-fun-of's on that show. It's great!

Let me further back the Daily Show, of course it may not be available easily outside of North America.

It is, as Jon says, just basic cable :-)

Just satire, but way better than most news out there! :D

...otherwise, Kylere posted some good ones. :)

LA Times and NY Times are decent, but I am not quite sure which way they swing on the political jungle gym.

The Wall Street Journal is by far the most balanced, politically, news paper for reporting. Ignore the opinions page. That is a print version of right wing talk radio. But the news sections are both balanced and excellent reporting.

The other thing I would recommend is the NYT. It definitely has a liberal slant in its reporting, but its reporting (unlike WSJ) is expansive. It is a heafty newspaper and since its local section is about NYC, many of those stories are things you will find in the National section of other US papers. It also has the benefit of being completely free on the web.

it airs on CNN International on Sat and Sun nights. Persons in the US can watch it on CNNfn over the weekend (because that airs International programming during the weekend...no stock trading).

basically clips from the week get consolodated into one 30 minute highlight show.

but to newspapers.

The Wall Street Journal is an excellent newspaper, which has a conservative editorial staff. PRoblem is that it isn't free online. I enjoy reading the WSJ.

The New York Times is an excellent newspaper, which has a more liberal editorial staff.

political commentators pay a lot of attention to editorial pages and opinion articles, but the actual readers of newspapers do not pay as much opinion to those sections. That is why you hear a lot more hype about certain papers being labelled as "conservative" or "liberal". They are really talking about the editorial/opinion page, and not so much the quality of the reporting in the other 80-150 pages.

Do not read the Washington Times. That is owned by Sum Young Moon (sp.)...yeah the Moonies guy, who is a huge supporter of the GOP...anyway, he bought the paper in order to push that agenda.

The LA Times is pretty liberal leaning.

Stay away from the USA today unless you enjoy useless polls and diagrams of sports players being run over by tarps. I think it is written for 8 year olds. That said it is pretty, all that color is so nice.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
