Pentagon officials tell NBC News that late last year, at the same time U.S. military police were allegedly abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld ordered that one Iraqi prisoner be held “off the books” — hidden entirely from the International Red Cross and anyone else — in possible violation of international law.
The relevant quote from the article. If all goes well, Bush will clin to Rummy long enough to make this still an issue around September or later.

Like Bush is going to fire someone for a minor infraction like breaking internatonal law. The administration has done nothing but break international law since he was elected.

heh poor George.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld last October ordered the high-value Iraqi prisoner held in secret at the request of CIA Director George Tenet, Pentagon officials disclosed.

ROFL!! MSN publishes the original story at 7:04 am this morning and CNN has a story redirecting the blame from Rummy to someone who already "quit" his job at the CIA at 10:40 am.

So much more fodder for conspiracy theorists.
