I didn't see anything inappropriate in there at all. Maybe I didn't see all of them.

The only thing that was inappropriate was her using a non-official email address for official correspondence.Fash wrote:I didn't see anything inappropriate in there at all. Maybe I didn't see all of them.

I believe the claim is:Fash wrote:I didn't see anything inappropriate in there at all. Maybe I didn't see all of them.
"GOP vice presidential candidate has improperly used private email to shield government business from public scrutiny"
No clue how that would hold up, or whether that is an actual violation though.
The posting of her contacts list is going to really suck for all the people on it.

For audit/compliance reasons, all official correspondance by a government official must be done through official channels (their .gov email address).

Was it really official correspondence? I saw her responding to an email from the Lt. Governor about personal attacks made by a radio station DJ.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
afaik, technically it is a violation because you are using an insecure, unarchived email account for government communication. the potential problem with that is obvious.
less technically, using private email outside of government channels to discuss questionable shit is favorable because they are difficult to subpoena, if not immune. something Rove pioneered with a purpose
even less technically, lots of people are ready to trust this woman with national security interests. this is just irresponsible. Its funny that McCain's inability to even send an email is actually a better situation than this.

I actually heard something about the reason McCain could not send an email had nothing to do with him personally knowing nothing about how to do it, rather it was due to him being physically unable to do it. The materials referenced were from Wired and some other tech site, but I did not look it up myself.

Well, I remember people wondering how he could possibly know so little about tech/computers that he could not send an email.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
If Bill Clinton only sent two emails while in office, why would it matter if McCain could use the internet/send email? The reasons for McCain being unable to "use the net" for any extended period of time were reportedly due to the same injuries he sustained that prevent him from even being able to comb his own hair.

She's the only one with just a 72 year-old's health between her and the presidency who has been outed for doing it this week, yes.
We're just getting rid of a VP who tried to circumvent the laws that were in place and make it harder to be subpoenaed. I'd prefer we took a short, 8-year break before installing another one.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
Emails to friends and family reportedly ceased within weeks of Bush entering office. Personally, I would prefer the President NOT to be using email for communication. I thought the McCain injuries to his hands had been pretty well known. Sorry you can't seem to comprehend how this could affect his ability to type.

Who cares if he can send an email or not? He's got a secretary or assistant or something that can do it for him if necessary.
Is someone arguing that he's too stupid to send an email? That's ridiculous. He's obviously an intelligent guy. Besides, since when do people look for intelligence in a President? Bunch of fucking elitists.

There are two issues:
1) Her personal email was hacked - That is absolutely wrong and I think liberals and conservatives can agree that the hackers are criminals.
2) She used a separate personal email to at the least talk about government business, if not conduct it. For what reasons would a person do this?

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
Cracking her mail account is wrong, but the cat is out of the bag now. That stuff is out there, and it will be somewhat newsworthy for a short period of time. Nothing in what's been released so far is particularly incriminating that I've seen. From what I've read, I don't think that this is the account that she is alleged to have used to circumvent archival requirements for official communication. That charge is separate matter from this compromised e-mail account, if I understand the situation correctly.
With regards to McCain, I don't really give a huge crap about whether or not he's particularly computer savy, although I do think it shows a certain disconnect from the modern world to not even have the knowledge to do some basic computing tasks. That said, it's not particularly unusual for someone of his age or generation to not use them, and I don't think it's really a big hairy deal. This nonsense about being unable to use a computer due to his injuries, however, is pure bullshit, though. Like others have said, if Stephen Hawking or others far more physically disabled than McCain can manage to use a computer, there's no legitimate reason that he can't. This "OMG his arms were wrecked in a POW camp while he was protecting us from the commies" is just a lame attempt to deflect a relatively insignificant criticism and remind us all that John McCain is a war hero (not that that has anything to do with being president), and that VC AA crews were not very good at their jobs.

Too funny.
Liberals make themselves feel better: "hacking her account was wrong!"
...and then ramble on and on about a non event that won't matter one bit when the actual vote rolls around
I bet you people also download pirated movies. "posting that movie was wrong but since it's been posted..."
Second, Obama has less of a chance of finishing out a term as president than McCain.
The Republicans were right to cut Obama down to size on the endless ranting about his "community organizer" experience. Christ, that's a pathetic resume to run as president on. He is no Martin Luther King the same as Qualye was no JFK. (although he does sound kind of preachy when he speaks)

I don't count being mayor of a town of 5,000 people in Alaska for 10 years as any sort of real world experiance. Switching colleges 6 times in 6 years before getting your degree in Journalisim is also laughable. The most experiance Palin has had with "real world" politics is dodging the federal investigation for ethics violation, which by the way, is revolting.Forthe wrote:His resume is pathetic?Winnow wrote:The Republicans were right to cut Obama down to size on the endless ranting about his "community organizer" experience. Let's not forget that Palin placed 3rd in a beauty pageant, which monopoly has taught us is worth $10. Oh wait, that's 2nd place...
She was a television sportscaster for a minute.
If you're looking strictly at resume, let's say to hire Obama or Palin for a position in a company you own where neither of them will have any policy making decisions, would you conservatives out there still find Palin's resume more impressive than Obama's?

This would be relevant if you were discussing them for the SAME POSITION. I would have no problems with Obama being a VP candidate for a qualified, non-commie candidate.
Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
But they are being discussed for the same position.
FoxNews doesn't even mention McCain anymore unless they're talking about Palin. This campaign is now Obama vs Palin. McCain might as well be dead already he's so irrelevant.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
It's relevant because the argument has been Obama's experience vs. Palin's experience. I didn't bring up that argument, the respective campaigns (and the media) did. From there, Winnow went on to talk about the community organizer thing being pathetic for a resume. The community organizer thing came up when comparing Obama and Palin. While they are not applying for the same position per se, she needs to be qualified to take over the position that Barack is applying for since she'll be the veep of a man who will cross the life expectancy threshold during his first term.Kilmoll the Sexy wrote:This would be relevant if you were discussing them for the SAME POSITION. With that in mind, I was simply asking if those two resumes came across your desk, which person would you be more impressed with. I'm pretty sure that I'd go "Hmm, beauty queen, sportscaster, governor of Alaska... that's pretty good. But Columbia undergrad, Magna at Harvard Law, Law school professor, I think I'll go with this one."
I think you're being disingenuous if you say that her resume comes close to approaching his. But then again, I value intelligence and hard work and community service because I'm an elitist, so what do I know?

And again...I do not care at all what the media says. They are NOT applying for the same position. If the Dems are concentrating their efforts on making this a platform of "our Presidential candidate vs their VP candidate" then you might as well turn out the fucking lights now and tuck tail for Canada. Your folks have one of the single most incompetent campaign advisory staffs since Claude Peppers.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
Perhaps not, but even in the beauty pageants that she's used to entering they look for a number two who can fulfill the duties of Miss Geography-place if the winner cannot. This is the same thing.Kilmoll the Sexy wrote:And again...I do not care at all what the media says. They are NOT applying for the same position.

No I don't, nor have I seen her merits compared to Dick Cheney's.
I think I do like her resume better than George W. Bush's, though. If both of those came across my desk, I think I'd go for the outgoing Alaskan beauty queen who can talk sports over the former drunk/cokehead who has run every enterprise he's gotten his hands onto directly into the ground.
It's a toss-up which of those two I'd rather party with, though. Bush would probably be a lot of fun, but Palin's pretty MILF-y.

It's great to watch people comparing Obama to Palin...totally sidetracked.
One is running for PRESIDENT and one is a running mate.
McCain must be a genius. The Obama camp (and obviously his supporters) are totally wrapped up in battling against a VP candidate, taking just about all the heat off of McCain. McCain can focus on bashing Obama because Biden isn't going to help get Obama elected while all the persecution going on of Palin will rally battered women to her side.

It's great to watch you skip over my reply, which made no reference to Palin, to those that compare Obama to Palin so you do not even have to try backup your initial claim about Obama's resume.Winnow wrote:It's great to watch people comparing Obama to Palin...totally sidetracked.

Accrediting this "genius" to McCain is funny considering this wasn't even his pick. McCain's "genius" pick was Lieberman and the shine (and utter shock) is coming off McCain's shiny new object, check out her pos\neg trends. You even have some honest republican commentators coming out against her selection.

It's kinda clever by MCCain to have chosen Palin though.
Judging by this clip, he is stealing some of the Brothers from the Obama-voters, due to Palins phat ass.
At first, im sure Obama thought he had all the brothers votes, now it's not so certain!

Some bullet points on his resume look to be affirmative action appointments. I'm sure having an African American as "President of the Harvard Law Review" didn't hurt the public image of Harvard. Sounds like a position a nerd takes just to make their resume look better. What next? President of the chess club? I was Chief Justice of the Student Judicial Board at my university. Wow! In that position, about the only useful thing I was able to do was veto a vote to have myself kicked out of the dorm after blasting pr0n audio out of my dorm window to drown out some religious preacher on campus. I'm sure Obama did similar amazing things in his position.Forthe wrote: It's great to watch you skip over my reply, which made no reference to Palin, to those that compare Obama to Palin so you do not even have to try backup your initial claim about Obama's resume.
Community Organizer is on the same level as claiming you were a house mom, or in Palin's case, a hockey mom...on top of that, she was a governor.

Go look up Harvard Law Review... it's only one of the top 5 law journals in the world. Being the President (which means editor-in-chief) of the law review is as close as it comes to being valedictorian of Harvard Law for his class. It's a more than full time job on top of being an academically successful law student.
And he was a community organizer (which in his case meant director of a small non-profit) before law school, and after law school he was a professor of Con Law at UChicago.
Such ignorance.
