Done!

My avatar bet win record is higher than USC's football winning percentage and Ron Paul is no Stanford! (although Michael Bloomberg could scew things up for McCain).

Boogahz, I have to take it. I don't mind McCain so much, and I think it would be pretty hilarious if Winnow had to display the loathed Hillary for a year. Also, if she wins the presidency, you're going to be seeing her face in far more places than VV.

Bet only counts if Hillary and McCain are the nominees, correct?

This seems like an opportune time to mention that Winnow and I both lost avatar bets to Zamtuk. I bet that Kellen Winslow would not pull 85% of Antonio Gates' fantasy production. Winnow (I believe) bet Vernon Davis against Winslow, straight up.

Antonio Gates: 190.20
Kellen Winslow: 176.30 (92.6% of production)
Vernon Davis: 99.45

I don't remember what we bet, exactly, but I think it was a sports-related avatar of Zamtuk's choice for a couple weeks.

Prediction: If McCain wins, he selects Lieberman as a running mate.

Yep, that's my first avatar loss! I'll let Zamtuk track down what the bet was. Vernon Davis was a monster bust.

I don't know. It doesn't seem like Lieberman would give McCain that many more votes.

I think he would. McCain isn't going to get great turnout among superconservatives anyway, so grabbing a independent/democrat as a running mate probably wouldn't hurt him too much there-- it's still a better conservative ticket than Obama/Clinton, so those who turn out whether energized or not will still vote for him. It will help his appeal among independents and conservative democrats, especially those who would like to support McCain but are bothered by the fact that he's socially conservative on many issues (abortion for instance). These voters will be more likely to forgive McCain's warts if he's with a running mate who can moderate his message.

Who could McCain pick that would get him more votes than Lieberman? Picking someone significantly to the right of McCain would seriously harm his appeal to moderates and conservative democrats. Picking somebody substantially similar to McCain would make no real difference. He's kind of got to appeal to the middle, doesn't he?

The risk of the strategy would be that the superconservatives would get so pissed that it would generate momentum for a far-right third party candidate who could siphon republican support from McCain.

McCain putting Thompson on the ticket as VP would garner huge votes from the GOP and Hitlery haters.

Quite frankly it disturbs me that women in this country not only put in Bill Clinton, but are now the key to electing that shithead of a wife he has. It is probably time to step back and take away their voting rights.

Fred Thompson drops out of the race.

Thoughts? Who will pick up his supporters?

I think they'll largely split between McCain / Romney, but given that I don't really understand Thompson's appeal, that could be wrong.

I don't know who I'd vote for in a general election between McCain and Obama. I like McCain a lot and it's whom I'll be voting for in the Ohio Republican Primary. I guess it all depends who gets the nod from their respective parties, so I'll just watch and wait.

On the Rep side, I like McCain as well, although I do feel he was much better suited in 2000 (pre-Bush steamroll). Still liking Obama on Dem side.

Between the two, I am leaning Obama. He is the Joe Girardi type we need to get these ragamuffin Marlins in the game.

Obama hit my no way in hell list this week after I saw his stance on gun control. That imbecile wants to make it illegal to own, buy, or sell any semi-automatic gun and federally outlaw concealed carry. With that stance, he wrote his own death sentence in the voting. So you have Hitlery and Obama running now to see which will lose handily in 2008.

Setback

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... ery-close/
(CNN) — If Hillary Clinton and John McCain become their party's presidential nominees, the general election race is likely to be a love-fest.

At least according to Bill Clinton.

Campaigning in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Friday, the former president brushed aside suggestions his wife would prove to be a divisive nominee for the Democratic Party, pointing out how she has successfully worked with Republicans in the Senate — including one of the current GOP presidential candidates.

"She and John McCain are very close," Clinton said. "They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history, and they're afraid they'd put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other."

The comments may not be welcome by the McCain camp — which yesterday faced fire from several of its rivals for winning the backing of the New York Times — a longtime archenemy of conservatives.

Sens. McCain and Clinton last met publicly at an ABC debate earlier January, when presidential candidates of both parties shared the same stage. The two were seen exchanging pleasantries, and a Clinton side said she told the Arizona senator he’d done a “good job” staging a comeback in New Hampshire. He asked that she say hello to Bill Clinton for him
Hillary's going to be giving McCain handjobs before debates, getting him to drop his guard.

I would just keep remininding the public about how much of a fucking sellout McCain has become. It's criminal how low he has sank in the past several years. I love how he condems Jerry Falwell as "an agent of intolerance", then turns around and gives the commencement speech at Liberty University. The more I read about McCain's past, the more I just straight up do not llike or trust the guy. He's a bigger "flip-flopper" than John Kerry ever could've pretended to be.

It's been pretty well covered that you have to lie and dupe the religious whackos to get them to vote for you if you want to win an election.

McCain's just getting that part of the job done. He could give a rat's ass about the fundies just like everyone else except their votes are needed.

Screw the ultra right wing Republicans (after gaining the nomination). McCain needs the moderates/independents and Hillary haters to win. It looks like he's done enough to get the Republican nomination so now all the swing votes will move to him over Hillary. If Obama pulls things out then it will be more interesting although that will give McCain the redneck, gun owner, nationalist, and racist votes. (not that blacks can't be racist as well and vote for Obama).

I'm not saying we should go shoot a president, but should say like Bush decide he was gonna be emporer, king, dictator, etcetera, we as a people could stand up to him instead of just beeing lined up against a wall and shot (like in european countries).

According to Wikipedia, it's a safer place (with respect to "violent crime") than such gang hotbeds as Raleigh, North Carolina; Fort Worth, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Tucson, Arizona; Wichita, Kansas; Anchorage, Alaska; Charlotte, North Carolina; Toledo, Ohio; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Nashville, Tennessee..............

Not that I'm making a point here, beyond the point that: Yeah, New York is fairly safe.

Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people. Might be a new saying, but it still rings true. People with knives or bows or a trebuchet or piano wire kill far fewer people because it's much more difficult than pointing and clicking, as it were.

Where do most illegal guns (the kind most often used in violent crimes: handguns) come from? Are they being sneaked across the border in balloons up peoples' asses? Or are most of them legally shipped to an end point (gun store/gun show/etc.) and then end up getting into the hands of a criminal via poor background checks, resale by an individual, theft, etc? I'm honestly asking here, I don't know the answer.

My gut feeling is that if it weren't so easy for anyone (read: bad guys) to get guns, then no one (read: good guys) would need them.

I don't know much, as I've only read an article in this month's Playboy, but it suggested that Bill Bratton was as much responsible for the turnaround in NYC crime as anyone else. He has also made great strides in Los Angeles, and virtually everywhere he's worked.

Actually, people with guns kill people.
I don't recall hearing anything about banning ALL guns in the US... but having stricter controls on guns (especially handguns) and banning aunt/semi-automatic weapons makes a lot of sense. Getting rid of C&C doesn't seem like a terrible idea either.

This may be a bit off-topic, but... we have it so good over here and yet we act like there is a crisis.

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Nearly half a million Brazilians were murdered in the past decade but the homicide rate is gradually falling due to better social welfare, more policing and fewer firearms, a study said on Tuesday.

In the 10 years from 1996 to 2006, around 465,000 people were murdered, according to a study published by two aid groups and the federal government. The vast majority were shot.

Wait a minute, there's a line in that quote that really has me baffled. Fewer firearms helped lead to less murders? How can this be?

haha, i knew you'd cherry pick that... fewer firearms helped, yes, but it wasn't the only thing (notice they listed it third) and I don't think brazil is a good comparison to america.

Guns are the great what if.

Of course we could send in the Gestapo/NKVD and make everyone conform if that is what you'd like.
So it's because of everything else in the world except guns. Gotcha.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. It's an old saying, but still rings true. Control of illegal guns is something I don't think any reasonable person would dispute. Problem is people want to take away legal guns as well.

People kill people with cars far more often than any gun crimes, But that alas is another story. Yes most 'criminals' gain legally purchased guns through theft or resale, or by legally buying them themselves BEFORE they do anything illegal (thus making them a criminal).

Yes I agree guns make it easier to kill. Yes I understand that. But that is also why they are a GOOD thing.

Now as for that last remark...
My gut feeling is that if it weren't so easy for anyone (read: bad guys) to get guns, then no one (read: good guys) would need them
You are missing the point entirely as to why the second amendment exsists. Thomas Jefferson believed the people would likely need to revolt every 20 years to truly remain free. It was specifically put into the constitution for that very reason. To give the people the protection against a maliciose Gov't. If Burma had the gun rights we do, do you think they would be going through what they are? If germany had gun rights like ours would the Nazi's have been able to line Jews up against the wall with impunity? Had the russian Peasentry been able to posses their own defense, would Stalin had been able to send 60 million off to their deaths in the gulags?

Our gov't is the OLDEST in use today. EVERY SINGLE other Gov't has been replaced throught the world. I believe that is due to the peoples ability to limit the power of our 'elected' officials. And just very wise planning by the founding fathers in setting up this Constitutional Republic in the first place. We do not have a democracy as you would all like to believe, we have a republic that has its laws laid out in its constitution to protect YOU from power hungry polititions or would be kings.

Doubt that? Google it! A mear 200 years old, and it is the oldest. Most European countries where monarchies at the time the US was founded. No other country has a standing Gov't even close to our own in age.

HAHA FUCKING HA. I can't believe that is your reasoning!

There are so goddamn many things wrong with your thought process that it's giving me brain overload. I don't even know where to begin.

You and Timothy McVeigh have good luck overthrowing the American government!

Having a gun in your home will increase your chances of getting shot.

I'm not ever going to reach for a gun in that situation. There will never be a gun in my home unless brought in by an intruder. Pulling a gun out on an armed intruder only increases your chances of getting shot, it won't lower them.

The Roman Republic lasted 500 years before a single man brought it down.

Do what you can to prevent that from happening to this one... :D
