I guess it depends on what kind of rights you think you have.
I think police have to identify themselves.
I think police need to tell you what they're charging you with before they detain you.
I think anyone who says "he was resisting arrest" are full of shit, he wasn't placed under arrest for anything, they just jumped him.
I also think any 4 guys that can't subdue a single normal sized guy without resorting to a tazer need retraining.

They didnt just jump him, they tried to escort him off the stage after he had his 7 minutes to talk, they turned off his mic and he wouldnt leave the stage and was getting loud. Once they tried to escort him out (which they have the right to do) he then started to resist them which turned his situation worse ....in fact to the point of which he was then resisting arrest.
It is not easy to contain a person in a crowded room even with 4 people. They were trying to contain the guy without hurting anyone. They did a decent job. If they had used more force while escorting him out, they wouldnt have had to taze him, but would be under attack for using too much force just to escort a guy off stage.

Not sure who said he was "resisting arrest". At least not in this thread. That's why I specifically used 'removal' rather than 'arrest' because at least from what you can tell on the video he wasn't being arrested he was just being removed due to his behavior. Behavior that ended up getting a few volts applied to him. It's not like they just walked up to him and said "Your time is up" and shocked the guy.

You also apparently think that was the entire video. It was clearly cut in numerous places.Zaelath wrote:I guess it depends on what kind of rights you think you have.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if this guy never gets charged with anything and the rent-a-cops who zapped him get dismissed from the farce.
While I was there, UPD was a bunch of poorly trained, poorly educated central Florida rednecks who really seemed not to like the college kids they were supposed to protect and serve. These are people who joined the UPD because they couldn't cut it in the real Gainesville PD. That's fine when you're writing tickets for going 18 in a 15, but not so good when you're trying to escort a loudmouth from a town hall session. Cops are supposed to know how to cool situations like that down, not escalate them by threatening to tazer people.
