I've heard a claim that pit bull brains often eventually get too big for their skulls which causes problems. It's possible, but I'd tend to think that's a rumor...

Having a pitbull or rottweiler around the house is like having a loaded gun. You just never know when it's going to go off. When people take these types of animals into thier homes, they should take the responsibility that goes with them. If/when a pittbull attacks someone (usually a child), the owners should be criminaly liable, with severe punishments able to be handed down to them.

The only thing I can't stand more than these dogs are the people who constantly defend them or come up with reasons why thier dog is different or why that would never happen with thier Rottweiler. I worked in the ER and the very first thing every dog owner said when thier dog mauled some poor kid was "It is such a good dog and never done anything like this before".

It only takes one time with an animal that size and with that kind of power. If you choose to roll the dice and keep one of those monsters, then I think you're an idiot. Worse yet, you are an idiot who is endangering those around you.

Yes, all dogs can be viscous on a certain level, but when was the last time you heard of a Jack Russell Terrier killing a kid?
When's the last time you've seen a JRT raised the same way as a Pit Bull?

if they are raised the same, they will have the same temperament.

Ummm, people have raised pitbulls in the nicest way only for them to turn on them years later. Its the nature of the beast.

Even if they are raised the same and have the same temperment (a theory I disagree with. Dogs of different breeds are dogs of different temperament)....but even if I give you that parallel, when a Pit Bull attacks its virtually unstoppable. The power and strength of the breed makes it a highly dangerous creature. If a Jack Russel attacks, the physical makeup of the breed makes it a less dangerous dog. An adult can swoop in immediately and restrain a Jack Russel. That is not the case with a Pit Bull.

Of the 448 cases of fatal dog attacks from 1965 - 2002, there is NO documented case where a single, neutered, American Pit Bull terrier was the cause of a hu-man fatality.
'Pit Bull' is the common grouping if a number of different breeds. The 'American Pitbull Terrier' makes up a small percentage of the group of dogs called 'Pit Bulls'. Staffordshire Terriers are the most common.

There is an abundance of negligent breeders exploiting the popularity of Pit Bulls. Inbreeding is rampant. Inbred animals have a much higher propensity for physical and mental problems than animals bred by respectable/legitimate breeders.
I'd hazard a guess that the average 'Pit Bull' owner did not take the time to investigate their dog's bloodlines and find out if it was obtained from a registered AKC/CKC breeder.

I'll agree that the pitbull breeds are inherantly more aggressive than most dogs.... combine that with irresponsible owners/breeders and such a physically powerful animal, you have a recipie for trouble.

It's no coincidence that pitbull attacks are so coomon.

I can't believe that people honestly think that.

If you raise a pomerian and a great dane the same way, they will have different personalities.

If you raise a rhodesian ridgeback and a standard poodle the same way, they'll have different personalities.

If you raise a mastiff and a jack russel the same way, they'll have different personalities.

DOG BREEDS ARE NOT IDENTICAL
