If the UN had the balls to do what needed to be done, our forces wouldn't be in there in the first place.

They don't .. plain and simple.

I know there is a lot more to what we are doing there but we are set to turn over power to the Iraqi new government. Let's give it back and leave. We can admit we fucked up and let the UN go in and fix things. Odds are we are going to have a new administration next year so they can blame everything on the current administration. We just need to get out.

The UN cant fix shit.

Well they certainly can't fix shit when the US, which is one of the major powers in the UN, constantly works against it. That's for sure. Same goes for certain other countries.

Once again Kyoukan posts and manages to do so without a solution but insists on being right.

Kyoukan proposes we leave them alone. Is there anyone out there who can see where a complete and total withdrawal from the middle east in terms of military, political and economic issues would be an utter disaste?

Someone have a WORKABLE solution, not all or nothing final solutions.

The UN is certainly not without its own black eyes.

I'm sure the US is to blame somehow. Hi Rek.

HEAR ME OUT NOW! I know it sounds shocking to you because the united states has never and can never do no wrong, but when you spend several decades funding wars and arming militants to overthrow governments and then try and set up your own governments, and manipulating their economies so you can profit from their own natural resources, eventually the population is going to start getting pissed off.
I agree we built our own monster, but it was not a single Presidency which I have seen you blame Bush. Your favorite, Clinton is just as liable, frankly Bush and Clinton both sucked as Presidents.

As for the US being perfect, far from it, but I can say what I want without fear of dying from some pyschotic leader disagreeing with me. The US is the Big power in the world so therefore the object of these extremists scorn. Can you really sit and tell me that you think if we left now we would not be the target of many more attacks?

Say we leave the region now, all hell breaks loose, people suffer and starve and call for help, who do you think they are going to call first, that asshole nation America. The US sucks but hey they can help us when we have our hand out. America is a great country because we are a melting pot, we have enough counterbalances that one group will hopefully get balanced by another. It may not happen all the time, but it happens more then virtually any other nation.

DO we consume more then anyone? Yes, but who is the first nation to come calling when a tragedy like an earthquake strikes a third world nation.

Is it racist? Yes, but far less then most.

Is it perfect? No, but it is far better then most.

I think you post smart educated opinions Kyou, but it does not mean I have to agree with you about everything and on this one I do not. We need to get out of Iraq, but it is not as simple as saying see ya later. The extremist we are dealing with are not rational, today the "Mastermind" behind Osama stated he will not stop until the world is Islamic, ignoring the problem does not make it go away.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
