I can't think of a single executive that can use a computer. The email bit is a bit shaky, but not uncommon either.

I think it more shows how out of touch he is with the current state of nation (technology, social wise). This very much scares me, because McCain is Anti-Net Neutrality, but he doe not even understand what the internet is (this issue has been brought up on slashdot multiple times). Not that I expect you respond to this in a reasonable manner.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:There's the arrogance again. There are quite a few, I am sure. You're probably right that it's no uncommon, but at this point I think that it should start becoming more common. Like I said above, it shows how out of touch you are with the general public of the nation you live in (my 60 year old parents are able to functionally use a computer, as are all of their friends, none of whom are particularly handy with technology, so I am not just talking about 40 or 30 or 20 and younger).Canelek wrote:I can't think of a single executive that can use a computer. My 80ish year old grandfather can use a computer. He sends and receives email regularly. In fact, I don't know anyone in my family who can't use a computer. Maybe my grandmother, but she's not running for president.

There are P&G top executives that not only use paper calendaring systems, but force their assistants to do the same. The PC's they have are mostly there because someone ordered them for them.
And in response to Aardor; McCain not using a computer does not infringe on anyone's rights to self defense. Given the option between him not nailing MySpace whores in the Oval Office and disarming the population, I will take the computer illiteracy option.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
Why McCain's domestic policy is in fact nonsensical:
http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html? ... 9d213578c1
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/? ... M4YTIzZDk=
http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html? ... 9d213578c1
John McCain's fantastical pledge on Monday to balance the budget by 2013 through massive tax cuts and unidentified budget reductions deserved the bad reviews it received. But the most unfortunate element of his incoherent promise is that it's representative of his policy agenda these days. While the McCain campaign is trying to paint Barack Obama as a flip-flopper, the Arizona Republican is making diametrically opposed policy promises to different audiences at the same time. The contradictions are often in the details, but their obscurity is evidence of the campaign's cynicism.
And yes, that's a liberal website, so I'll pass along a conservative review of the piece:The larger problem is the contradictory ambitions of the McCain campaign. The candidate wants to stand for "leadership, courage, and choices." Yet he also want to be both a supply-sider and a deficit-hawk. He wants to transform our health care system and Social Security without adding any money to either and without anybody getting hurt. He wants to be a tightwad on spending who doesn't cut any spending anybody cares about. These are impossible policies to explain, because the policies themselves are impossible.
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/? ... M4YTIzZDk=
There are some claims in this piece with which I do not agree, but overall it is a devastating indictment of McCain's wishy-washiness on policy.

This is shocking to me. While most executives I've dealt with aren't computer scientists by any means they generally are proficient in specific business uses such as web, email, office apps (at least enough to open and review spreadsheets, presentations) and crackberries (typically with a lot of handholding).Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:I've worked for some very large companies and encountered many top level execs who were computer illiterate.miir wrote:I've worked for all the major banks in Canada and every exec I have dealt with has been very computer literate.

Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)

I see how it is. A democrat sees the light and you give them them the boot! Liberal my ass. Next thing we're going to hear about is the formation of a Democrat Gestapo.A Wisconsin Democratic delegate to the Democratic national convention has been dumped by her state party for saying she would support Sen. John McCain
Debra Bartoshevich is a former delegate to the Democrat national convention now, she has been stripped of her delegate status after her comment she would vote for McCain when the news of Hillary Clinton dropping out of the race became public.
The administrative committee of the Wisconsin Democratic Party (WDP) took away her delegate status in a unanimous vote of 23-0 today. The defection of a Clinton supporter to the Republican candidate was apparently too much for the WDP to live with, despite the mother of two children telling the WDP she had made the June outburst in a moment of emotion after Clinton dropped out of the race.
An additional strike against Ms. Bartoshevich was her affiliation to "Citizens for McCain," which Ms. Bartoshevich had explained as having been signed up for by her sister who is a McCain supporter. But during a teleconference between the state committee and Ms. Bartoshevich committee member Dottie LeClaire responded.
"You reached right back and hugged them. I have a problem with that,"
Re: McCain will be the next U.S. President (IMO)
I think it's obvious that if you're a freaking national convention delegate, you're going to support to party. If not, then you should not be going.

Why have delegates then?.. Why not just take the number of delegates assigned to each party and apply them in the vote? Why bother with delegate elections in the first place?
If you're elected to delegate status, do you not have the right to vote with your own conscience?
I suppose it's more of a don't ask, don't tell policy (or just don't tell) so I don't feel too bad for this lady.

Ben Stein is a smart man.

Don't worry about McCain, once the fervor dies down over the Messiah, the campaign will pick up. Even with all of the world tours and fauning over this inexperienced candidate, he is only 3-9 points ahead in the polls. Sept. and Oct. should be interesting.

Spang, Midnyte is much older than you. He is younger than Ben Stein. Therefore, when Ben Stein talks to you, don't listen to Midnyte. However, if Ben Stein isn't talking to you, listen to Midnyte. If neither is talking to you, I will listen to you because you are older. However, if one of them is talking to me, I will listen to them and not you.

Keep twisting words so you don't have to speak about the topic at hand. Never once have I said someone older is smarter. Someone older may have more experience than someone younger though. They may understand responsibility more than someone younger. Odds are they do. Not all the time though. There are always exceptions. Normally older people aren't as filled with blind anger and vile. Then again you know this and are just trolling me. It really sucks though. National Polls Show Very Tight Contest
Two new national polls show John McCain eking out a single point lead over Barack Obama, while a third shows Obama up by three. A Zogby International /Associated TV poll of 1,011 likely voters taken July 31-August 1 shows McCain leading Obama 42%-41% with Bob Barr (L) and Ralph Nader each taking 2%. The Rasmussen Reports automated daily presidential tracking poll for August 4 shows McCain and Obama tied at 44%, but with leaners McCain leads 47%-46%. However, the Gallup daily presidential tracking poll of 2,659 registered voters taken August 1-3 shows Obama leading McCain 46%-43%, up from a 45%-44% lead yesterday.

True, but that's actually a very large population for a poll. McCain Woos Bikers:

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008 ... os-bikers/

Some would call it noise pollution! Still, he's secured the biker vote!Mr. McCain’s message was a jumble of policy declarations and sharp slaps at his Democratic rival, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. Mr. McCain noted that Mr. Obama had drawn tens of thousands to a speech in Berlin last month.
“I’ll take the roar of 150 Harleys any day. Any day,” he said, to more roars.
“This is my first time here,” he continued, “but I recognize that sound. It’s the sound of freedom.”

Also, not all whites will vote for McCain, and not all blacks will vote for Obama.
